Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I was driving to work this morning in Canberra and I saw a white standard looking Touareg parked behind another car on the median strip.

Not a normal place to park unless the Touareg has hidden blue/red flashing lights and you've pulled someone over for speeding.

    WTF?

There is a fleet of unmarked Touaregs with the Australian Federal Police. Mainly seen supporting the Governor General, Prime Minister and visiting VIPs from overseas. MY13 I believe all in white.

Interesting . . . I will advise the wife to keep that in mind next time she is cruising to work on the Majura Parkway.

I don't think the AFP give a crap about speeding it's not really their thing.

They do when the AFP provide the "community policing" here in the ACT . . .

ACT Policing (part of AFP) do give a crap about speeding, trust me! Not that I ever got pulled over by this S60!

But those AFP guys in the VW Touareg, not so much. They are most likely to be 'Close Personal Protection' looking after VIP's. They are sworn officers but have better things to do than hand out speeding tickets.

The VIP protection guys get some interesting bits of kit. I understand they now have Harley Davidson motorcycles as the Harleys are the only bikes that csn come with low enough gearing to be able to comfortably do walking pace for motorcade duties.
