  • Google autonomous car not ready.

    Not Ready for Prime Time.

The autonomous vehicle was*at fault. That was the rendering of California's Department of Motor Vehicles regarding a recent accident between Google's self-driving car and a California bus....

Autonomous road vehicles are inevitable, I think. We just need to get used to it, like the modern aircraft we fly in nowadays. They take off, fly, navigate, land pretty much with minimal or no human intervention nowadays, especially the likes of Airbus A380.....

I would so love to be able to get into my car, enter my destination verbally, sit back and watch the scenery go by and let the vehicle deal with traffic, road conditions etc.

1981 Honda Civic hatch. Proper AUTO REVERSE cassette player. AM/FM with Stereo speakers. Four (yep, FOUR!) speed manual. Full cloth trim seats. HALOGEN lightbulbs! Factory options fitted: rear wipers and washer, "Go Fast" wheel covers & electric front windows.

but did anyone die? That's probably the most important part.
Think about it, what if driverless cars still had minor accidents every now and then but nobody died?
What if the road toll would be 0?
Sure, it's a long way off but a nice future to think about.

Under a bad weather conditions and perhaps network failure it'll be only matter of time before some nasty accidents happen to drive less cars.

Also, imo, you can't compare busy city traffic conditions to the traffic in the sky.

Yes I remember the first time those automated flights started a famous one was a flight crew were coming into an airport to do a low pass at an airshow but the plane had different ideas and it crashed . Then there was another one in Russia I think where the flight crew fought with the planes computer as it tried to land the plane and the crew did not so for a couple of hours they fought with the computer until it won and the plane crashed into a hillside . No I like to think that I was born with a brain and the art of getting a license is the reason we want to experience the drive .

But would it have crashed if the bus was autonomous too?
