    Hi Guys

Just wanted to share an article in the local paper. In a nutshell due to increased activity on Mt Nebo from those wanting the stretch their cars legs police are ramping up their patrols in the area so please beware.

    Cheers

Someone in a Golf was going on to VWA on their Facebook page some time back about how one of his factory alloys failed at Mt Nebo on a bend . As someone who has driven that road a few times I can see why it would be tempting to push the boundaries , I could not see a factory wheel failing unless it was being tortured mercilessly by continuous high speed cornering . There are some pretty violent corners up there and when taken at speed would place enormous strain on the wheels suspension etc. PS have only driven it in our Transporters so NOT guilty of hooning .

I have heard about that "factory rim failure" and also heard that he stacked it causing the rim to fail. End result was a big bill from VW to repair as car telemetry showed that it was not just a rim failure.

Re mt nebo, the posted limits are actually fairly high compared to similar runs in nsw (RNP, Macquarie Pass, etc..).

and some parts have really deep drop offs (20m plus) with sharp corners and 80kmh posted limit (and lower recommended (not legal?) speed in the corners).

that wouldnt be the case in nsw. more like 50kmh.

Yes the speed limit is pretty high for the variance of road bends and road width.

IMO they should just plaster the place with cameras. We have family at Jollies Lookout, they had a huge land slide during the rain event in Jan 2013. Since then, I've averaged 3 days/month up there so I feel I know the road well.
                    My observations:
*If I push through at 5-10km over the speed limit, I nearly always have someone appear out of nowhere on my tail. How guys can sit on 100+ is beyond me, the number of times you round a bent to find a cyclist doing 5 up a pinch is unbelievable....
*Quite often while working up there it sounds like we are at a grand prix track - seriously it goes for several hours / day
*pretty much every week there's a fresh set of marks where someone has run out of talent...

some people are just wired differently

same applies to young female drivers (actually young old male and female!) with both hands and eyes on the phone while travelling at 50, 60, 70 kmh. and also at traffic lights. i see that a lot while commuting on the bus.

anyway it is only 3 demerit points and $353 penalty...

was up there yesterday - speed limit has been reduced to 70 for most of the way, there is only one small section at 80 now.

                          Spotted 4 patrol cars/bikes

when QR raceway runs bikes event, they fit cushions on the barriers on top of the compulsory medic onsite.

all bikes run in one direction with no cars.

on the mountains, the trees are not that soft...

and it is 2 ways with plenty of blind spots.
