Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Recommended Melbourne VW Dealers

Just a quick topic about your experiences with dealers. Keep the thread positive as much as possible guys

Am expecting the arrival if my new mk7 R in the next week or 2.

As many if you know (especially if your following the Mk7 R thread) - my dealer - Tom - was super awesome in his willingness to listen and talk and negotiate a really good deal.

I couldn't recommend him more highly. This is the 2nd car I've now bought through him, and have also referred a few to him.

If you're after someone that will take the time to talk real numbers, without the BS, go see Tom at VW South Yarra.

    Tell him Koe sent you!

Thanks for the info. There is also a good car service provider in Melbourne area i.e, "Volks Affair" who can do best service and maintenance at good price.

        Melbourne / VIC dealer recommendation

Hello everyone, I am in the market of a Golf Comfortline Wagon and looking at a July / August delivery if there is any in stock. Do you guys have any recommendation of dealers in Melbourne / VIC that I should contact? Would be good to hear you recent experience, good / bad.

        Cheers! Kane

Had a bad experience post delivery with BW Glen Waverley, hid a really bad touch up and they weren't genuinely apologetic. YMMV.

I too got mine from Barloworld GW. No issues with the joint, other than the coffee.

Kane: In my humble opinion, the better question is not so much where's the recommended dealer, but rather who's the best (defined in whatever way you choose) salesman (or saleswoman). What you want to find is a Salesman that will genuinely act as your champion should the brown-stuff collide with the fan after the deal has been closed.

I've just been through the process of buying a new Polo and my first call was back to the place where I purchased my Golf. I was disappointed to get a salesman that I reckon had just left high-school! Nothing wrong with being young (it wasn't the kid's fault that he was young), but it was obvious that he did not know the product that he was selling. His other problem was that because he was new, I didn't get the sense that he had the confidence to argue with authority on my behalf should the need arise.

Anyway, through sheer luck, I went to another dealer and ran-into the salesman that had sold me my Golf -almost 12 months ago (he had moved to a new showroom). His name was "Sam". I would call Sam an outlier when it comes to Salesmen. No hard sell, no BS, what-you-see-is what-you-get kinda guy. The best thing about Sam is that he is genuinely honest (a very rare trait in the world of new car sales). I hope that he is still working in new car sales when I buy another car!

The other piece of advice that I would give (for what it's worth) is to look very closely at the T's & C's of the contract that you eventually sign. In the case of my new Polo and the Golf that I purchased 12 month ago, the sales contract was described as being "industry standard". IMO, the clause to look-out for is the one headed "Limited Liability". I'm not a lawyer, but this clause is a shocker! Thank God for Australia's consumer law legislation! I had this clause deleted in both the new-car contracts that I signed.

It is certainly a good time to buy a new car with all the firms trying to close deals to meet their end-of-financial-year sales targets.

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

MY mk6 was purchased from there and again had fantastic support and can't give any bad reps to them.
I guess it is just pot luck.

Had good experience with the friendlyness of both the sales and service staff at Burwin on Burwood highway. Am on my 4th VW from them and had recommended quite a few friends there as well.

Thank you for the advise, especially the T's & C's! Would you mind pm me Sam's contact deal and which dealer he's working for?

I got a few quotes today, I asked for Comfortline wagon with carpet, weather shields, reversible mat with flap and metallic paint. the quotes I got back range from $31200 from a regional dealer to $33500 (including "Premium Plan 36 months extended warranty", which the guy said is VW's warranty...) Looking at the quote sheets, I am amazed by how different the charges are for the accessories!

I guess my other question is, is VW's extended warranty worth the money? Has anyone who has bought the MK7 within the last year has opt for it?

I asked for it because it's my first European car and like many others have heard about issues with the 7-DSG, I know the negatives on the internet outweighs the positive feedbacks, but I just can't help to think that I need the extra cover.

I had no problem with the sale/collection (apart from the fact that they were not that willing to budge on price but that's no biggie). I had a problem with a touch up that was done poorly but small enough that I didn't spot it upon collection because it's between two panels. They offered to re-touch it up with a pen and it's "not that noticeable". The attitude was appalling if you ask me. It's alright if your car has no problems that involves a lot of $$$. But I would say just go to a dealer that offers you the best price + check every single inch of the car before you leave.
