  • Deactivating DRL when indicator on

I've noticed that a number of cars with DRLs now deactivate the DRL on the side an indicator is being used because with some headlight clusters the DRL can hide the fact that an indicator is being used. So far I've seen this on a Range Rover, Benz, BMW, and the most recent one was a Mitsubishi.

When I first saw this, I thought it was a DRL that had failed, but then saw the indicator operating. As soon as the indicator stopped, the DRL came back on.

I wonder how long it will be before there is a software update for the VW range to incorporate this.

I have to say that it does look slightly weird, however the indicator can be seen more easily compared to when the DRL is on all the time.

I believe Audi were the first ones to do this a few years ago, and more recently the other brands have started to use it. A work collegue has a 2012 Jeep Cherokee and it does it too.

I agree it does look like the DRL has broken, but does also make it easier to see that the indicator is on for other traffic.

I've seen the MK7 Golf do that.

I have a mk5 and it is in the computer to set. All you need is a VAGCOM cable to set it up.

          Interesting.

I have a MY11 Caddy Maxi Life, so theoretically it should be there (I hope). It goes in for the DSG recall service on the 6th, so I might ask if it can be done.

          Are there any pre-requisites?

You can code the DRL to dim (not completely turn off) on the Mk6 Golf - at least with the xenon cluster (not sure about the halogen type).
