I agree to an extent. But the main problem with talking on the phone is that your brain is focusing on the conversation rather than driving. For that reason, I'd make the assertion that whether you're on bluetooth or holding the phone, the main distraction is the conversation, not holding the handset. Hopefully someone can drink a coffee without too much cognitive deprivation
So, no conversation with passengers in your car then

Road rage is road rage. No matter what, in a civilised society, there are laws that deal with these things. If everyone justified their actions by taking matters into their own hands there would be anarchy. If the penalties are insufficient, then have that changed.
It doesn't matter whether there was an accident or not, there are laws and processes to deal with these things.

As a taxidriver in a previous life you can talk and drive and if the occasion warrants it stop talking and just drive.
Its the idiots who, when talking, have to turn and look at the passengers, who get up my nose. Surely they can talk without having to turn their stupid heads just so they can see who they are talking to.
I have a friend who will turn to look at someone in the back seat when he's talking to them. I wont go driving with him any more.
My life is worth more than his conversation. As for coffee, have breakfast at home. Some one stops, Coffee goes everywhere and you automatically look at it and result is sadness.

I agree with you but it seems that Russian drivers don't and by some of the videos they would be first rate candidates for Darwin Awards.
The standard of driving in Russia seems to be rather nonexistant and they all have dashcams to prove insurance claims.
It seems they have prangs and just drive away or have an argument and then drive away.
A different ethos it seems in rather a lawless country
My original post was not on the rights and wrongs of what was done but the fact that readers blamed a male driver when the article plainly said it was a woman driver and that readers don't see what was written but what they think they see. Just an observation rather than a criticism
I think in this, and many other instances, we are looking at two wrongs. The driver in the wrong who has caused the incident, and the driver who has responded somewhat irresponsibly to the incident. Who has done the greater wrong? In my opinion this case exhibits that the driver using her phone has done the greater wrong. Her wrong could have taken a life, whereas the responding driver from the incident merely destroyed a mobile phone.
Road rage isn't the answer, but at the end of the day endangering someone's life/causing an incident that holds up traffic and requires emergency services and tow trucks is a lot worse than yelling at someone and breaking their phone.

I've been in situations where other driver's inattention has been almost caused accidents so I can understand the frustration of that dude...
But (and that's a big but) the response is also very risky in itself - it could have very easily escalated... What if, as is common in some parts of the world, the driver was armed? Could have turned really nasty - over what? A minor accident?
I believe these days people just have dyslexia issues with rules (some do help to improve safety like mob phone use while driving) and what they do on the road.
It must be the food they eat..
I see on daily basis in the brisbane cbd ppl using & holding phone (even texting) while their cars still moving.
It is only a matter of time for those ppl to have something bad happen.

I have a few projects on the go up around Caboolture area so I spend a bit of time back and forth on the M1 north. Every single trip I see at least one driver texting on their phone while driving on a busy 4 lane freeway. You can normally tell by the way they're driving, then when you pass them, yep sure enough they've got the head down texting away. From my observations it seems as though the worst offenders are females under about 35.
It makes me wish I was a cop, driving an unmarked car.
I agree that road rage is trivial at most situations. Being calm is the best thing, and those want to get the best out of the situation are the ones who are being calm. Too bad there are so many primitive people out there who don't want the best out of it.

Well said.
I don't condone this guy's actions in the GIF. Do you know how much un-backed-up data could have been on her phone? A person's whole life is on their phone. He made himself judge, jury and executioner and that's wrong. I don't think he should have yelled at her, either, because words hurt. He should have smacked her. Bruises heal, mobile phones don't.
