  • Window Tinting

Sorry everyone if I'm repeating this,

Interested in getting windows tinted in a few weeks. Read through the forums and noted contacts to go through. However, noticed that there has been discussion re: whether or not it is advisable to take the panels off when getting it done.

Pros and cons? Is there a cost differential?

    Cheers

I am not a tinter but know lots of guys personally who do the work full time , most of these guys will remove the top seal at the top of the door trims only, they can then get the tint right to the bottom of the glass . in some models they may remove the whole door trim but not too many .

Off the top of my head I can't think of a single model car where you can remove the inside top strip without removing the door card first.

I've used the same tint guy 5-6 times now, and he has taken the trims off every time. And I couldn't care less, as long as he puts them back on right. On one car I de-trimmed it for him and he knocked $20 or so off. For $5 a door I'm happy to let him do the work from now on.
When I pick up my new car tomorrow and get it tinted next week I assume the trims will be coming off.

Oh wait, VN-VS commodores. The top strips might come off those before the trims.

OP, I have a 77TSI the same as you. I had the windows tinted and the trims were not removed at all. The tint runs perfectly to just below the top of the trim and I cannot fault it at all, perfect job. Doesn't appear to be necessary on the Polo.
