The story with the oil change is, it should be changed at 60000km or 4 years in use.

If you only did 20000km in 4 years the oil would require changing.

If you did 60000km in 6 months, the oil would still require changing.

Your non-VW service place have failed you in this instance I feel. Making the statement, it'll go to 80000km easily doesn't help you in the warranty process with VW.

You will probably have seen VW in the news. So I wouldn't give up the fight. You should play the family on board, dangerous card at every opportunity!

    Best of luck

The line in your post caused me to make comment [You should play the family on board, dangerous card at every opportunity!] VW do not have a consience or a heart , I have two disabled children both in wheel chairs and need a van for daily life usage . When our auto failed because of a design flaw they just fobbed me off and could not have cared less for the well being or safety of our kids whilst in their product .
And yes it did lose all forward drive without warning and got worse due to a blocked internal filter which they refused to change .

That is awful!! I was told my vehicle was perfectly safe to drive by the dealer mechanic, yeah right!! I don't enjoy not being able to turn right across traffic incase i loose all power and have to stop the vehicle in the middle of the road. Not safe at all.

What about other VW owners with kids? Or are your needs more important than theirs?

Finally we have a resolution! VW Aust are covering parts and labour and the vehicle will be repaired on Wednesday next week. There are parts in Australia (phew!) and they will have them Tuesday. We have requested the DSG filter be replaced at our expense. Very pleased to have it sorted out.

                Thats great news!
Did they confirm when your warranty does/did run out?

No, we didn't get into it. I was just relieved they are going to fix it. I will go over it all with them on Wednesday though and also confirm we have a new warranty on the new parts installed and work done.

Pretty strange comment and if meant to be constructive, it's far from it mate. If its meant to be funny, might want to take comedy lessons...

                      1. I have never received a letter from VW about recalls/campaigns on my T5. So I am not sure if this is something that is meant to occur or not, or if it is something that is meant to occur when the vehicle gets serviced at VW.......But, if you never get VW to service your van, then you are not going to know about these updates/recalls.

                      2. As far as I know, the recall was for the lag in the shifting, not sure if that would cause the problem that you have now.

3.If it is a sensor fault, would an oil change or software update have prevented the sensor from failing??????

                      4. If the oil was not changed at 60,000km, I don't see how VW is responsible for this.

The DSG oil changes, has been discussed many times on here, and recommended due to the old 'sealed for life' chestnut from the previous transmissions. PAY THE EXTRA TO HAVE THE FILTER CHANGED ALSO, because VW will not do it, as it is not in the service schedule.
It looks like you are new to this forum.....maybe only now because you have a problem. Welcome to the forum, and I hope you can get the matter resolved.

John, do you have any details or ID number on that recall for the lag issue? Our T5 7speed has had two VW dealer services, each time having asked to sort it out but still the problem exists. At the 30,000 service I was told something to the effect that it is an integral part of the transmission characteristics. I can understand there might be some lag due to the turbo(s) but it is frankly dangerous, and based on my experience so far I'd never again go near a DSG, and have been advising friends to the same effect.

There's a PM coming your way Transporter... and thanks John for the link - I just hope this can be sorted out as I've had too many situations of irate other motorists abusing me for creating a (percieved) near miss.

Glad it worked out in your favour.

It is well known that the DSG transmission has its fair share of issues - even the 6-speed version.

In my opinion, I think the issue would have eventually reared its ugly head even if the DSG fluid had been changed on time, so I would expect VW to take responsibility for it issue, despite the apparent lack of proper maintenance (which luckily for you, didn't exceed the 60 000 km fluid change interval by an incredibly huge margin). Had you travelled much further, I highly suspect VW wouldn't play ball.

As a general reminder to everyone reading this, any vehicle which isn't maintained as required by the manufacturer may have repercussions on the warranty, so it is highly advisable that the owner take some interest in a vehicle's maintenance schedule.

Took the car in today. I waited in town entertaining my 4 children and 7.5 hours later i'm told that the car is unsafe to drive (finally someone agrees!) and that the sensor they replaced has not fixed the problem Unfortunately they have no loan cars available, and as VW Aust is closed they can't authorise a hire vehicle for the hire place opposite, and as my car is unsafe i now need to find my own way home, to my house, in another town.

They now have no idea what the problem is or when it will be repaired. They probably need to stop mucking around and replace the entire mechatronics unit (is that what it's called?) I hope to have approval for a hire car from VW Aust tomorrow. The saga continues ...
