Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Thank heavens I never had potentially life threatening problems, but man I tell you when I stepped away from VAG the palpable sense of the weight off my shoulders was something to experience. Approaching my current service department no longer fills me with dread, as in 'what arrogant crap am I going to experience today, will I be told again that the bleeding obvious can't be detected, and just how much am I going to get ripped for the pleasure of a non-fix?'

The angst this set of issues is causing demonstrates there is a real customer service problem here, one that VAG has done way too little to address. They knew about it long ago but did nothing (I was surveyed and later discovered VAG had received tons of negative feedback). I feel really, really sorry for those of you who are going through this nightmare with your cars. I sincerely hope VAG is forced to improve how they handle customer issues, however that might be done.
These are the sorts of posts that punch well above their weight, for people who are unfamiliar with the brand.

VW is in the spotlight, especially as we are watching Ford Australia no longer produce cars.

That's not quite comforting assurance from VW. hmm...
This really baffles me cause Jetta 118TSI Comfortline did really fit all my criteria. Except that now with this VW issue, it is so hard to just brush it off.
I really hope VW comes out and do something about it real soon.
Obviously, I am not very keen on the Jetta any more. 1 question though, has the cars that's currently being manufactured are ok? For example, MY13 or MY13.5 Jetta. Or there is no current information what so ever. Cause I dont seem to be able find any info any where.

So we'll see that in an article obviously slightly worded differently?

Ford will cease local production 2016 ands whats it got anything to do with VW.

I had my DSG tuned by HP and am very impressed with the way it performs in relation to change points and speed of the change. But I still get false neutrals.

If I take the advice of a previous post, I should start caring about those of us who have had no problems.

You have probably taken a Falcon taxi a few times in your life. It probably did not have serious issues as are discussed in this thread.
The taxi driver was still taking passengers as he did not "live in apprehension" of what might happen to the passenger's children in the backseat. He probably did know that Falcon taxis on LPG cover up to one million km before an engine rebuild.

Australians should be wondering why we are losing car manufacturing jobs to a car manufacturer, who is having some serious issues.

Sad to see VW owners (with issues or not) having absolutely no regard for those who do not have issues. TBH when that happens the reputation of VW in this country will soon be up you know where (if not already there), yet those same people are suggesting this will all blow over and that VWs are still desirable. Crap! Read the forums and I think you will find otherwise. I know many who were planning on buying a new VW have now changed their minds (must be ten times worse for second hand). For now, the biggest losers in all this are the vast majority without any issues whatsoever!
I'll tell you what's ludicrous. Your post is.

Are you SERIOUSLY suggesting safety issues - which VW have now acknowledged, in case you missed it - should be swept under the carpet because the resale value of your particular car, which hasn't had any issues, YET, is going to be affected?

That is one of the most selfish things I have ever read.

Anyway, once everything is sorted, confidence in the brand and the cars will be restored, and so will your precious resale value. Why don't you get that?!?

Does that mean Top Gear is to blame too?

VWA has not been proactive is looking after us without the media's involvement. ACCC also was not doing their bit in last few years.

I'd rather have the value in retaining and driving it rather than worry about resale value. I've also advised others to avoid VW until they get their act together. Fair advise for potential high expenditure. Call it selfishness but I think it's pragmatism since VWA has brushed those with issues off all these years without considering even VW enthusiasts. I have been skipping cruises in case more CEL and limp mode occurs in the last 12-18 months.

Resale won't recover for a long time, if ever. VW have themselves to blame, as they didn't address issues sooner.
The Japanese carmakers have learnt the rules of maintaining their customer image when things go wrong.
They need to refund affected owners in full and even that will not remove the negative publicity which has occurred.

People still think Mitsubishi Magna's are rubbish even though the last models were very reliable and had a loyal customer following.

                      They are rubbish.
Old Alfa's and Lancia's are horribly unreliable, but tons of people love them to death (including me ) and they aren't generally considered rubbish cars.

You trolling? you've come on here with apparently looking at buying a secondhand VW yet havent replied in that post and trolling here now instead.

Children in the back? How about logic instead of emotions

And as losing local manufacturing well not everybody wants a car that reminds the head of a TMNT but the fact is ford and holden have been riding the gravy train of their couch-tanks for too long.

As far as cabs go i will only get in a VW or toyota. Notice only the silver cabs use falcons nowadays for the so called prestige cab rides

                          @ VW_Perceptions :

That is your opinion, but there are plenty of people still buying VWs today.

I understand that for you, the damage has been done, but for anybody who is not a present owner, or who is not currently in the market, this whole fiasco has probably just been a blip on their radar.

When they ARE in the market, most likely this will have been sorted, VW will have learnt a valuable lesson (fingers crossed!) and hopefully it will all just be a footnote of VW history.

I don't think the damage is irreparable.

                          • Your choice of cab? Can't say I have seen a VW cab in Vic.
Listen people like one car or the other. Does not really matter.
What you should be directing your energies towards is SUPPORTING the people who have had problems.
The car manufacturer is clearly not fulfilling their obligations to their Australian customers, yet. Shouldn't take long though.

How is this related to DSG issues or the rest of this thread?

Every non-silver service falcon cab I jump into in Sydney has tonnes of problems, but drivers who are doing their best to make a living in someone elses car.
                              Some examples:
                              - Petrol light on? "Yeah, I just filled it up, but the light always stays on"
                              - Engine light on? "Mate, the owner won't let it get fixed, if it's running, it's working"
                              - Engine sounds like it has 4 cats dying in there? "All of the ford I drive sound like that"
                              - Oil light on? "Not sure mate, not my cab"
                              - Suspension sounds bad? "Mate, the owner said it could take more than a week to get fixed, and he won't do it"
                              - Exhaust sounds like it's falling off? "She'll be right"

                              - if a driver doesn't get into the car because it;s not safe, you aren't in that taxi.
                              - if a driver decides their job is too important to worry about the car, they aren't going to tell you

How many Taxi drivers own the car they are in? Bugger all
The vast majority of drivers are shift workers, and those cars and plates are owned by someone else (often a retired driver).
Unless it's on a tow-truck and not earning money 24*7, nobody seems to care.

1million km before rebuilds? Probably because the owner won't take it in for service before then.
Besides, how long does it take them to do that many kms? 12 months? 18?

Not sure Fords jobs are exactly "lost" to other manufacturers. Simply that the market and production is not in-line with Ford's global direction. Or Carbon tax. Whatever.
Australians have a long history of buying cars from overseas manufacturers, even after reliability issues, and those cars are still on the roads today making their way around the used car market.

When Mitsubishi stopped manufacturing the Magna in Adelaide, and what did Australians do? Put Mazda at #1, and when VW, Leyland, and others stopped building in Australia, did society stop? nope. They just bought cars from other manufacturers.

LOL. There really is no point discussing this with you until you grasp a couple simple points. There is a difference between VWA, cars produced by the VW group and the owners of those cars. Yes VWA/VGA have behaved badly, in fact very badly in many cases and in general. However, not all cars produced by the VW group are death traps and the vast majority of owners have never had an issue, are unlikely to have an issue and until last week were happy. Finally, everyone agrees that all the issues are the responsibility of VWA and they need to resolve them.

However, if you read all the media reports there is no intention there to differentiate between the VWA, cars produced by the VW group and the owners of those cars. You really need to learn how to read. There is one way to bring a story to the public and then there is another way. Suggesting VWs are death traps in the first article is the wrong way especially after recommending them as best in class for many years despite being very well aware of the issues. It seems all the true VW haters are laughing the most suggesting that within this thread even some enthusiasts have shoot themselves in the foot.
