Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

lmfao just saw the polo episode. You bought a stock car with 95kW and 230Nm at the wheels and had expectations that it would be "engaging". I think riding an old mule might be more engaging

I drove a Honda City Turbs ('my cousin has one he lets me sit in sometimes'), which I believe would be early 80s kW at the engine.... and it was engaging as an engagement party, albeit I was a little worried it might fall over.

That's right... I can JDM when I need to.

have bought cars with half that power that have been better to drive... i don't mean better to commute, better to go to the shops in, better to carry your girlfriends dog around in (or your girlfriend) but just something you want to go and attack twisties in

you can't understand that unless you give it a go, so i did... thats the most i've ever spent on a car keep in mind, i realise a 2x more expensive r32 or gti might be a different story

all part of a process at the moment, haven't sold the polo.. although i did get offered a swap for a copen :O

Yeah Ben, when we are done with yours, there's no immediate plans for it. Trial for the cost of postage.

Fair enough dude I think you will find any modern car (last five years) especially a Euro more comfort focused these days. However if it's the twisties you love then borrow someones Polo with coilies, sway bars and better rubber and I bet you'll have a smile on your face you can't wipe off. Anyway best of luck with everything!

I agree with the 'not engaging' statement.

My GTI is having a holiday at my parents house whilst I join around in a motorkhana-prepped mini. 998cc, drum brakes, cage, hydraulic handbrake, diff, totally awesome.

Personally I don't find many modern cars all that "engaging". The majority seem to lack a bit of soul, and just seem boring (to me atleast). Granted I haven't driven any of the new sportier VW models myself (Golf GTI, R, etc) but have been for rides in them, and have driven a few of the basic models, but would choose to drive something 20 years older any day.

I'd love to see you do more euro stuff, a mk1/2 GTI or a mk3 VR6 would be awesome, they all have so much more character than a newish polo GTI (which seems to be a bit of a compromise of a shopping cart for Grandma and something to get Grandpa to golf quickly). Actually an e30 would be maad aswell

Buy a VR6 if you want engaging! And when I say engaging I mean both to drive and on the wallet... Suits the older car concept though, and has far more soul in my opinion. Cheap to buy and with your knack for DIY it probably wouldn't break the bank, not far off the Urabus's and Neeesanns anyway.

Then again, I might be a little bias... Would definitely love to see more on euro hatchbacks.
