Saw that coming a mile away. A 9n GTI isn't that great to drive. A similarly aged Fiesta XR4 might be slower but is a whole lot more interesting to drive, IMHO.
The Golf is in a different class, so its a bit rude to compare them. But even then a Golf is a whole lot more clinical and boring compared to a more energetic Focus XR5, 3 MPS, Meganne RS etc.
I'd much rather spend every day in a Golf or Polo compared to the competition though, as I find the total package more important than a single attribute. Not everyone is the same, is why we have choice. Yay

Totally agreed! the overall package that comes with a golf or polo, or any euro in IMO is much better then any other car on the road.

I didnt think you could just whack on a downpipe and drive away without a tune.
Also, the 9n3 is a very engaging car, having followed some around lakeside i can vouch for that.
Stock it would be a bit tame I guess.

Most elaborate and professionally choreographed VWW troll ever. Funky little car, but don't blame him for thinking it's a bit boring. They're good at what they do, being a surprise package zippy shopping cart that flys under the radar, and I like them for that. Moog was right though, should have gone an R32 barpp, that shoeless nutter has good taste.
I'd challenge MCM to find a Euro that Marty finally agrees has soul, on a budget.
Really impressed at how well known MCM is becoming, I've had fairly unexpected people quote it. Can't wait for the next episode, really enjoy the humour and down-to-earthness too.

Glad you like it fellas, i was lurking around here a little buying and selling polo bits... trying to fly under the radar! had to pull the ad.. had zero interest in it before the episode went live then stupid interest in it once it did. I must say I forgot that VW people are scared of high Ks, the cars in stupidly good condition. I'm used to Subaru people who will buy a car with 400,000k's on it without thinking twice!
it'll sit in the garage for a while yet, i've got a few other goodies to go on it (S3 brakes, frankenturbo, fmic etc) but i think its just gonna make it spin one front wheel a little bit more than it already does.
not a crap car by any means, and i never actually said it was a 'bad' car - its just not as engaging as what i'm used to. But then i also don't do the daily traffic grind and i'm sure thats much more pleasant in a euro..
next episode is gonna be epic

The brakes will be good - wheel spinning is the FWD curseOriginally posted by Smidge View Posti've got a few other goodies to go on it (S3 brakes, frankenturbo, fmic etc) but i think its just gonna make it spin one front wheel a little bit more than it already does.
In the old days Jap cars were much better for the daily grind because they had a light clutch and carburation that was setup for round town driving - auto's, fuel injection and other high tech seem to have levelled the playing fieldits just not as engaging as what i'm used to. But then i also don't do the daily traffic grind and i'm sure thats much more pleasant in a euro..
When I bought a Mazda3 I lost interest in cars - my Skoda has re-engaged me - different strokes for different folks
Looking forward to it...Originally posted by Smidge View Postnext episode is gonna be epic

rip the back seats out, rip the aircon and power steering pump off, tune it, throw some coilovers under it, chuck some fatter rubber under her and you'll be laughing. a few blokes in melbourne would probably give a left nut and let you drive theirs in a hope to keep a polo under the constant youtube spotlightOriginally posted by Smidge View PostGlad you like it fellas, i was lurking around here a little buying and selling polo bits... trying to fly under the radar! had to pull the ad.. had zero interest in it before the episode went live then stupid interest in it once it did. missed this one, catch up at lunch time...
The Polo is useless without a tune, 110kw stock from an engine that can do 150 without any real mods, not far off what the mk4 GTI was (at least its lighter). With the extra power (more torque really) it benefits from being dropped.
Once you've spent a good 5k on it, very nice toy...
I guess its all over now, but happy to show the boys how one with some reasonable mods moves. I don't consider my Polo a weapon, but its now in a place where I can't see anything for what its worth that would be an upgrade (IMO).
I've borrowed Gav's spare CC ECU if you wanted to see if he'll send it your way for a demo... Car is pointless without at least a phase 1 tune.Last edited by noone; 22-04-2013, 12:05 PM.
