Aurion quicker than a GTI, really?

We had an Aurion at work. I went ok from the lights etc, but in the corners she was a bit of a lead tipped arrow. You had to be careful how you drove it when you were going hard.
While I doubt I'd ever consider owning an Aurion, I'd consider using the motor in something sporty.

There is no argument that a hot hatch is more fun. But without modifications on our hot hatches there is the odd retiree that will enjoy embarrassing us in a straight line dash.

My GTI has APR stage 1 tune with APR stage 2 cold air intake. I think this brings the power up to around 200kW and 400Nm (give or take). My best 0-100 time is 5.15 seconds using g-tech with 0.1s accuracy tolerance. Others with the same mods have recorded high 4.9's.
Motor magazine December 2012 managed a 6.12 out of a stock GTI DSG.
The raw power figures don't tell the full story. With a consistently fast gearbox, good launch control and a good diff the GTI gets it to the ground quite well.

The same comment applies to both the SV6 Commodore and XR6 Falcon, both do 6.5s 0-100km/h. I think in standard form the GTI is under done. Yes a stage 1 tune remedies the situation some what, but then leaves you with the warranty argument (just had to replace my inlet manifold, just out of warranty). Any rep mobile falcon or commodore driven in anger from the traffic lights will leave you behind initially. I recently took an XR6 along the Great Ocean Road, the performance and handling was reasonable, but certainly the interior of the car is where the obvious differences are.mk VI GTI, manual, reflex silver, basic

I don't really care too much about 0-100 times, after all traffic light drags are not what driving is about.
The question that comes to my mind is would I rather drive an Aurion over a Golf GTI (or in my case a VW Eos)? The answer of course is no, no, no, no, no, no, no no, no, no, no, no, no, no no, no, no, no, no, no, no!
Also begs the question, why is it always a Camry/Aurion meandering along in the right lane below the speed limit steadfastly refusing to move to the left and let others pass by?
0-100 means nothing.
Cheers

If you're only interested in traffic light drags why on earth would you buy a GTI? A GTI is about so much more than straight line speed, and provides a driving experience that an Aurion never will.
Enjoy the real strengths rather than worrying about imagined weaknesses.Former owner of MY12 GTD with DSG
