  • Mercedes AMG A45

Was interested to note in the article about the highly anticipated A45 that they are using piezo injectors...
Either Merc haven't done their homework....or perhaps they've done their homework and overcome the failings some have experienced with these things over the years.

Very impressive specs no doubt these things will sell like hotcakes. The more competition at the pointy end of the hot hatch segment the better!

    265kw from a four... wowsers.

Is it AWD? Would want to be I'd think! $85k is a lot for a hatch!

    Looks mint though.

When you consider what it's going up against, it's quite cheap. Basically this will rival BMW's M135i and Audi's TT-RS. The TT-RS doesn't seem like that much of a rival because of the $40K price difference, but we don't have the RS3 here due to ADR Approval for its Carbon Fiber bits. This is by far the cheapest AMG and is only something like 0.1s slower to 100KM/h than the C63 AMG.

That's absolutely astonishing and will most likely sell like hot cakes.

At least $10K more than an M135i and the suggested $80K will translate to $100K on road. That buys you a used C63.

It will indeed sell like hotcakes.

People across the country are overflowing in cash and agonising on how to get rid of their spare $85k, so thank god for the arrival of the Merc A45 AMG. Problem solved, I'd say.

              Should be a cracker.

MB tend to be far more reliable than any VAG product too. Win.

Fail that I'm not successful enough to be able to buy one. Note to self, get better at stuff.

Sure thing - just give me your bank account details and I'll deposit the money on their behalf.

But you might get beaten by an A45..

Yep, on a league of its own!

Yeah I'm sure a HSV would be quicker/larger, but a new AMG with that power and specs for under 100k?! Next car for sure!

There's been a LOT of changes in piezo injectors, as with all things, and the problems with the early ones was all down to sealing the piezeo stack from oil, which over time builds up metal particles and thus becomes conductive. This also assumes the injector is bathed in oil, which is mainly the case in the old mechanical, cam driven PD injection systems. Sure it still happens, but common rail in the diesels, and most petrol cars can work around that pitfall and keep the piezo stack out of the oil. A piezo injector in air should outlast the car.

I'd have one of these new babies in a heartbeat if I could afford it!!!

Delivery is scheduled for 10th December. Comes out of production end of September. Can't tell you how excited I am. Had to go with white with black rims so I can outclass all those White 'R's that are around! Sad to be leaving the VW fraternity though.

lol. it's all just learning, man - not out of anyone's reach.

i think i must be weird. hat's off to anyone who's going to buy this, but i've seen a few a250's on the road in melbourne - they just look odd, what with the sedan length nose.
