Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Really considering my options if not covered. What do you think i should do if not covered? its also a known issue with dsg! Can any one please shed some more detailed info if this has ever happened to them with there outcomes. Thanks everyone
Certainly, a good service history with a VW dealer will help your cause. Report false neutrals (they can be life-threatening), might entice VWGA to look after you.

So does this mean that I wasted a lot of $$ getting an extended warranty? Hasn't come into effect yet so maybe I can cancel it.... If this is applicable to my car that is (2010 golf TSI DSG7)...

Don't fret Bell, you didn't waste your money. Extended warranties are worth it, I had one and didn't claim on it till a week after it expired. It was about 6 grands worth of work, company covered it without question

Also these issues are only common on forums which is about 1/2 percent of all car ownership and where folk come to talk about problems

The 5 years is for DRIVETRAIN. There are a lot more parts on a car that can fail that wont be covered by that warranty.

Thats why the extended warranty may be worth it.

Which they revoked late last year. Simple 5yr/130k km warranty now.

That's great news.. I was always worried about this once my warranty ran out (although like with all problems on the internet I suspect the vast majority operate just fine and things just get blown out of proportion).

Can now defer having to decide whether to move to a Mk7 for a bit longer yet.

I'll be speaking to my dealer about this once I return although the car being tuned probably won't help my cause (should I have any problems).

Why does VW insist on using DSG's if they're having so many problems? I mean, I'd rather drive a ****ty DSG over a CVT but there's gotta be a decent slosh box that can pick up the slack?

I had the ECU flash done on a 2008 Jetta that i used to own... it was done after owning the car for about 12 months. I had the mechatronics unit replaced, the gearbox reset numerous times and finally the gearbox replaced (all within warranty period). At no stage did i reset the tune back to stock before taking it to the dealer to look at the gearbox problems. Nothing was ever said to me regarding the tune so i dont know if they checked for it or just concentrated on the gearbox... but VW germany was in direct communication with the dealer as to what things to test and check before they gave the go ahead for the replacement.
So in my experience there was no questioning whether the tune had caused the fault.

Even more interesting will be how VW view those that have had a DSG tune done ....

They will be able to tell easily with the diagnostics they have.
