RIP. Another massive talent and character lost
Really shocking and you're right very bad taste of all the TV networks showing the accident in such detail. ABC showed onboard footage from Rossi's bike. Not necessary.

yea wouldn't surprise me at all. He and Sic were best mates and Rossi hasnt had the same confidence since breaking his leg last year. He is "too old and has too much money" to risk anything.

I was so shocked when I heard the news. Didn't see the race as I was watching the Rugby Final.

I'm shattered, he was such a character and had such great potential that was starting to show. He would have been a world champion for sure in the coming years.

            RIP you will be missed

Yea very tragic. I came home and flicked on the tv to catch the end of the race but just got the long faces of the commentators.
I dont think there is a problem in showing the accident on the news. I didnt know what had happened so was hoping it would be shown. Channel ten had the decency to warn of the graphic footage.
Was a really bizzarre accident. You often see riders get run over and they turn out ok. That always amazed me. Not this time.

You gotta feel for Rossi and Edwards they will be struggling, not to mention the poor safety reviewers who will have to relive the footage over again!

                What a sad tragedy.

I shed a tear as I waited for the news. Only last week I was able to say 'hi' to him at Phillip Island.

”Aren't you scared you might die in an accident?”

”No. You live more for 5 minutes going fast on a bike like that, than other people do in all of their life." [Marco Simoncelli]

I was discussing this with a friend a we think the traction control was partly to blame.

It looked like Simoncelli low sided off the bike and got trapped underneath it and driven across the track because the traction control recovered the slide. This prevented the rear from sliding away which would have meant the bike and Simoncelli would have slid away from the track - I'm betting that the bike running like that trapped Simoncelli's hand with it jammed on the throttle.

You could see Edwards and Rossi trying their best to turn inside Simoncelli since the behaviour of the bike defied normal expectations.

                  Really bizarre and tragic

I have no idea how his bike was travelling in that direction. No more thinking about it for me, it was sad enough to watch when it happened.

This is the only crash I've seen that made me glad I don't race any more.

Rossi (and Edwards) would be devastated. RIP Super Sic.

While it may seem gruesome, it is worth analysing fatal accidents to see if the circumstances leading to them are avoidable.

I'm not being flippantly callous - I gave up motorcycle racing after a friend died (leaving a pregnant widow). I MAY have continued if I hadn't just had my 1st child.

                        Vale Marco.

Will certainly miss his racing. Taken too soon in a freakish accident
