  • Sprint Booster Discussion

I installed a sprint booster today and I am extremely happy with the results. I know it just messes with the drive-by-wire but I swear my car has just increased about 50nm in low down torque!

    Oh yeah, good value mod

How on earth is $300something for a couple of resistors/capacitors a good value mod? It doesn't actually make anything faster.
If it was $30, I'd think about it.

compared to spending $2k+....some may find it good value.

I had a sprint booster fitted to my Liberty 3.0R and I was very impressed. But after about three months the car went into limp home mode. The only fix was to remove the sprint booster.

It's not a chip, so I'm not sure what the $2k is comparing it to.

There is a cheaper product I believe, by Pivot, or was this the one the OP went with?

I didn't say it was a chip. So don't bring that into the argument.

The OP spent <$300 on an item that he has found to improve his experience behind the wheel. The first response questions it's value as a good value mod. Compared to what?

Geez guys take a chill pill! Its exactly like the si drive on the subaru's. They work in pretty much the same way. It has more urgency off the mark, eg the gear engaged quicker so its quicker off the mark and its more sensitive to kickdown. It's awsome. I love it, so for under $300 to affect the driavability of the car in such a +ve way its a good value mod imo!

Ive used them in the past on MBs with good sucess.
It only changes the way the throttle is logged but it sure makes a better spirited driver.

                Enjoy

                  Cheers,

It actually gives you much better range of control over the acceleration. One of the best mods Ive done!

Actually, it does the opposite. It reduces the range of control. The exact way that the device works is that it moves the "100% throttle" point to the 66% pedal point. Therefore, you only need to press your pedal 2/3 the way down to get 100% throttle. Thus, by definition, it reduces your range of control - by 33%

Glad that you're happy with it though. I can certainly see the appeal with people wishing to reduce the pedal range on the Golf. It's a shame they don't come with a button to do this like some other cars do.

                      Hey Corey,

While I can appreciate this logic, I would be more inclined to compare it to this: Go to your PC control panel - mouse settings, click on the pointer options tab and slide the pointer speed down to slow. Then try to navigate around the page, too slow! With the mouse slider there is a sweet spot where its not too reactive and not too slow. To compare, the oem pedal sensor is IMO below this sweet spot, but the sprintbooster in 'green' mode is definatley at this point.

Would recommend this as an essential upgrade!

Sorry dude - it isn't my logic. It's Sprintboosters "How It Works". Since Sprintbooster make the product, I'd take their word for it

so..it's okay to quote from another source, and display it in such a way as to allow readers to believe that the post was your own opinion? When in actual fact, you don't have any experience with the product.

IMHO...that's not good form for a moderator.

The logic that the OP has expressed is obviousdly from his driving 'experience' with the product. The manufacturers description is logical and understandable.

My original post was in response to the false claim of "much better range of control". It was supposed to be a factual explanation, not an opinion.

When my post was questioned, I looked for a source to show that my explanation is correct. Nothing more, nothing less.

I've driven a 2004 Mini Cooper S with a Sprint Booster... my opinion is why pay a few hundred $ for something that you can do yourself by moving your foot quicker. If our cars came with a button which did this, like some cars do, then great, but I personally wouldn't pay for this accessory. But that's my opinion... really has nothing to do with what I was responding to. Hope that's clear now...
