Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Cheers Maverick. I'll Google around for the pedal switch mod, sounds alright.

For the meantime I've just used a thick bit of plastic as a makeshift mod the moment and it's working great, not sure why I didn't do this ages ago! No more auto shifts in DSG with WOT, it's a revelation bahahaha.

EDIT: Found the product you mentioned, but it's looking like the company that makes them has gone down: http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87290

I was just searching for one of the places that sold them and found him, I can't see when he last logged on but perhaps he's still around and can sell them? Might be worth sending a PM?

There was at least one other company selling them, I'll see if I can find them and post the details. I think the manual gearbox car doesn't have that detent switch but it may not be as simple as swapping as it may require a certain amount of resistance to be there.

        Cheers Mav.

I tested my little makeshift plastic wedge today on the M5 and at Wakefield:

I put a small plastic block between the back of the pedal and the base of the pedal and it's done the trick. I can now floor the crap out of the pedal and the DSG kickdown button will never activate.

At Wakefield the car now holds 3rd gear perfectly on turn 2 as well as the fish hook (despite trying to not press the button here I always managed to). So nice to not have to worry about not clicking that last little button on the track where you've got other things to concentrate on.

Ps: also tested on the M5. 110km/hr in 6th gear in manual/DSG mode, smash the accelerator and it did not at all try to shift into lower gears.

Me being me I'd prefer something custom made as opposed to my dodgey plastic square which is attached to the base of the pedal with double sided tape (at least I used that hardcore 3M outdoor stuff though haha!).

I installed my sprint booster today and am happy that I did.

I haven’t noticed much difference when driving in manual mode but when driving in D it has improved the car a lot.

Previously I really hated driving in D mode because you seemed to have to push the accelerator down quite a way before the DSG changed down and the car took off. All of this delay takes time.

With the device set on the Red “race” mode, a small amount of foot movement is all that is needed to make dsg to kick down and for the car to take off. A lot less waiting (hence the car feels quicker) plus the down change is less severe – what I mean by this is – because the dsg has downshifted more quickly, my foot has not continued to push the accelerator trying to get the car to move so at the end of the day the dsg drops one or two gears rather than 3 or 4.

Now makes driving in D mode, at least for me, an option. I have no trouble driving smoothly in “race” mode. And yes, in D mode, the car feels quicker.

Not tried in S mode as yet.

Keen to hear if you find anyone making something less dodgy hehe. Wonder if we can just unplug it lol.
