    Eeek... those poor unfortunate people!

p.s. I agree with the above, Acer and Asus are worth a look too!
Toshiba are great, but they fall into the "business" laptop expense category.

Thanks to everyone that replied I agree the choice out there is massive. Hawk that ASUS has a killer spec the only thing that didn't blow me away was the screen res but at that price I'm sure that is pretty normal/good!

I've only got 4GB Ram in my imac so 8GB seems mental but like petrol I'm sure you never have enough etc

I wanted a laptop with a decent size screen, but unfortunately that makes it very big for travelling around with.

When its at home I plug it into a separate monitor and logitech alto docking station c/w wireless keyboard etc

In hindsight now I wish I'd got a smaller laptop for travel convenience

I also wanted a decent size screen (and resolution)... so got one. I carry around a 17" MacBook Pro everyday and don't know why people have such an issue with it. The MBP is only 3KG (so is under the weight of half the 15" Windows machines) so isn't exactly the brick people make out and has all the power all the time

To be fair, opening it up and working on train isn't always as easy as you would like due to the space to the next seat (haven't tried a plane yet) but when your at a random office or otherwise it's perfectly fine.

I'm up for a new one this year and still haven't been tempted to get a smaller or lighter machine, while an external monitor is possible, unless it's with a docking station where I can just drop the unit on and get access to all the bits and bobs it's all too much effort. Problem is Apple don't have docking stations and I do like my Mac.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
