Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Jesus Christ!
It costs me about $89 to fill the Tig, GF has a heart attack every time lol.

I assume because it is Christmas the price of fuel has gone up again, and like the banks, the Government doesn't do anything to stop the collusion between them.

Enjoy your petrol head fun while you can though, soon there wil be only diesel or electric.

I drove 86km in a spirited manner in the 16V and it cost me $23.23 for 98 RON.

Glad I have a diesel for everyday driving.

Very true, i still can't believe they still get away with changing prices so often and so blatantly.

I could be wrong but isn't there a push towards removing ordinary unleaded leaving only a choice between E10 rubbish or overpriced 'premium'. My car doesn't like E10...

I thought that "standard" fuel had been (or is being) phased out by E10 since it's cheaper, problem is it makes the difference for the 98 RON stuff look even worse.

That said I still use nothing but 98 in the VR6, just seems to like it better and even if it's just wishful thinking on my behalf, since I only do limited km's it's not al that much more to run an arguably "better" fuel.

Diesel on the other hand... Filling up the Kombi is a $100 affair, but at least it's on a lease so it all comes off the magical card

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

The price of Diesel is ridiculous, but it does go further.

I use regular unleaded in mine because it's not really powerful enough to make a difference if i stick premium in it. The price of fuel has made me re-consider my plans to run twin carbs though.

The price of diesel is outrageous considering it is a by-product of the petroleum production cycle.

They are planning on phasing out regular unleaded soon by restricting the number of fuels that can be sold.
The local 7/11 has got around this by not selling premium so it does regular, e10 and diesel where as most will do 98Ron, e10 and diesel.

It's all part of owning a car though and i could spend my pay on worse things.
At the moment i put $20 a week into fuel for the car.
I don't know what else i could pay $20 a week for to get the same enjoyment and practicality from.
Hell people at work end up spending $30 a week on coffee so i just use that as my justification

What i mean is as drivers, fuel is a necessity. Cars cost money. If you can't afford it, buy a bike!

And I like the rainy weather thank you very much!

It's not a case of whether i can afford it or not and it's just that sort of apathy that allows fuel companies to get away with blatant price fixing.

Doesn't it piss you off just a little bit that prices go up so much seemingly over night and for no real reason?

I would ride a bike but it's a little difficult balancing a weekly shop on the handle bars.

But in the UK 60+% of that is tax, whereas over here its at around 40%, so if the tax level was the same it would be closer.

My main issue really is that last time i filled up 2 weeks ago it cost me $50, now its $68. $18 jump in a fortnight, bit steep.
