Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • They're primarily race cars, designed to last until the end of the race before being massaged by an army of mechanics.

As for doubting the engineering, the Lancia Stratos it took the Manufacturer's title three years in a row, the first car designed and manufactured specifically for rallying. The Lancia Delta Integrale won the constructors' title six years in a row from 1987 to 1992, and has the most WRC wins of any car (46).

If you still have your doubts.....

Its just what i saw or read somewhere, I did say apart from the Delta and a couple of others and i did say they where amazing, pay attention dude
Thay did make other cars aswell, but many people dont know about them because they were full of fail road cars. The had the first production V8 sedan or something along thouse lines but it was pox.
They might be great race cars but the Integrale still has pedals that arnt infront of the driver

          • apologies for the poor photo.

this was my little toy for a few years

I spent nearly $25k on mods including a fully rebuilt engine with just about everything, even silly little things like sodium filled valves, and a nice big Garrett turbo.

Started with 70KW and finished with 280KW (when the damn thing worked!!)

              • My first car was a 1978 2L Escort, and it also taught me a valuable lesson about how cars are a bad investment. How did you manage to channel 280kw through the drive train (did you manage to break everything)?

Any pics of the engine bay?

                • the one thing I didnt do was put in an LSD, which in hindsight was stupid for performance, but probably saved my gearbox etc.

I didnt actually have a day's problem with clutch gearbox or diff.

i dont have any pics of the engine bay, whch is reeeeally stupid, cos everything, including the custom manifold was pure artwork!

                  • My car was mild, not even a cam in it.

                    I ended up replacing;

                    Clutch
                    Drive shaft
                    Rear axle seals
