That was at Silverstone in 1992... I remember watching the race on TV...I think that would have been the last time anything nice was done between Mansell and Senna, as their relationship got very icy after that...

Ahh, my favourite cars! The Porsche 917's! homicidally hard to drive, dangerous and lightning fast. The guys that could drive them fast had nuts like boulders and amazing skill!

The second pic is of Senna with the John Player Special Lotus.. The team that he proved himself with.

The Porsche 917 is a racecar that gave Porsche its first overall wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970 and 1971. Powered by the Type 912 flat-12 engine of 4.5, 4.9, or 5 litres, the 917/30 version was capable of a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 2.3 seconds (917/30 0-200 km/h 5.3 seconds) and a top speed of over 240 mph (390 km/h)[citation needed] .

All of the 917 versions in total are 6 unique cars. The least-powered version is the 917K (the most successful), produces around 620bhp. There is also a long-tail version (917LH), a "pig" version, modified 917K with the 908 rear spoilers and the 917/30. In the 1973 Can-Am series, the turbocharged version Porsche 917/30 developed over 1,100 bhp (820 kW), and as much as 1,580 bhp (1,180 kW) in qualifying tune.

The 917 is one of the most iconic sports racing cars of all time, largely for its high speeds and high power outputs, and was made into a movie star by Steve McQueen in his 1971 film Le Mans.

Pedro Rodriguez gave one of the greatest performances in the history of sports car racing at Brands Hatch on April 12,1970 as he threw his Gulf Wyer Porsche 917k around the Kent circuit in heavy rain to score the overall victory by an incredible 5 lap margin.

I can't find the pic of Pedro all crossed up out of Turn 1 at Brands in the rain.. Phenomenal shot.. Gives me a chubby actually!

I said that I was busy and recommended Brian Redman. 'Brian Redman has had a crash and is in hospital,' came the reply. Jo Siffert was my next helpful suggestion.
'Jo has had a crash and is in hospital.' I said, 'What the bloody hell's going on over there?' Huschke replied, 'Our new car is not easy to drive!' He wasn't kidding." In actuality, Zuffenhausen's contracted drivers just plain refused to drive this unsorted car
Siffert and Redman won the race in a Porsche 908.

"I went over with David Piper. He did one lap, came in and said that he was too young to die! It had no power below 5000 rpm, but over the next 1500 rpm you found another 350 bhp. I drove it like that throughout the Nurburgring 1000 Kilometres. It poured down all the way through the race, and it was snapping sideways and aquaplaning all over the place. It was bloody dangerous. I guess it was one of the few times that I was really scared. "
