2:15 of boredom followed by 20 seconds of mediocre entertainment and it was being driven by a PERSON!
Am I missing something?
Youre missing the part where the car did a front end throw all by its self! Have a look at the video. The person in the drivers seat wasnt touching the steering wheel

If only VW Park Assist was this cool lol.
I might have got it as an option if it worked like this one.
This is also the passat they are using to improve park assist to work in end-on parking spots.
Would be interesting to see if they can make it adapt to weather/road conditions.

Hahaha! Um, the driver is driving the car - sorry to disappoint you. At 2:17 you can see the driver looking back over his right shoulder and at least one hand on the steering wheel - look through the passenger's window!!! Then you can see the driver take their hands off the wheel when watching through the windscreen immediately after the car stops. This is NOT automated and hence why it fails to be "so much win".

I see what you are saying and I did notice the hands when I looked at it innitially. BUT if you look closer I think you will see that he drivers hands are covering the steering wheel in case he needs to take control of the car. At no point in the video does it look to me that his hands are actually touching the wheel.
video at 2:17 This is when the car is in the midst of its front end throw. So unless he is controlling the car with one finger id say youre wrong.
The resolution of the video isn't good enough for a single screen capture to show much. When you watch it closely without pausing it, you can see the driver looking back over their shoulder, plus hands on the wheel and arm movements. And finally at the end you can see the driver take their hands off the wheel.
It makes absolutely no sense for someone to be covering the steering wheel for a demonstration like this, and it can be quite dangerous to try and grab a turning steering wheel as it can cause injury. In the envent of a failure, the driver simply needs to apply the brakes with his foot to abort the automated demonstration. Take the Park assit for example, available in current production cars... You completely remove you hands from the wheel, no covering necessary as you have the brake pedal as a safety overide.
I'm not saying this sort of thing can't be done... Simply that in this video, it's quite plainly not automated. Happy for people to disagree with that synopsis, but that's my take.
youre discounting human nature. If i was going backwards with the car in control I would be looking over my shoulder. If a car was flung sideways whilst I was in it my first reaction would be to grab the steering wheel to steady my body.
What youre saying is the video is inconclusive yet youre willing to make a conclusive judgement. Doesnt make sense
