Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Some dude kicked my car, put a massive shoe shaped dent in the fender. Since then I've kept a trolley bar in the car. I'm not about to jump out and attack people, but it's piece of mind.

Any money the P-plater your parents encountered were from Bankstown UWS. I've got a class there this semester and have noticed a lot of careless drivers, P-plated or not. You can't beat these guys, just have to take it slow and let them pass.

I recently bought a 32mm spanner for my tie-rods. Now it's just sitting in my garage looking pretty. Hmm!

This why I keep the big mag light and Glock in the glove box. Na just kidding about the Glock. Sure is some dangerous people out on the roads and you never know what they might pull on you.

Anyway, there's worse things happening in the world than people zig zagging on the road.
I agree completely, I was in last week Sri Lanka and the road conditions there are crazy (amount of traffic, mixture of cars/bikes/trishaws/foot traffic and dogs on the worst road surfaces), but one thing is for sure: people there push and shove all over the shop and no one I saw in my time there got atressed at all, just had patience and no anger! They also have amazing spacial awareness, much better than most people here seem to have.

This stuff happens everywhere, almost on a weekly basis sometimes.

I used to get stressed out about people doing stupid things. Now, meh let them kill themselves.

After being in Peru earlier in the year I have realised Sydney drivers are nothing compared to Peruvian drivers. How does 3-4 wide down a two lane road at highway speeds during roadworks sound.

I've a few tales to tell on this subject but I'll limit myself for now

                  1. Just the other day, I got abused verbally by a driver in a carpark. I was heading up to the end of the row (ends in a T-junction). Car comes around the blind corner (from my left) going too fast for a carpark, cuts the corner and almost hits me in doing so. I was yelled at for being in his way.

                  2. A number of years ago, sitting behind another car at a stop sign. Waited about a minute with no cars coming either direction so I tapped the horn (short tap, not long). The driver leapt out, and opened my door and tried to pull me out of the car (ripped my t-shirt). luckily the passenger in the other car pulled the guy off. I did report this to the police as I noted the car and number plate. The guy received a 12 month good behaviour bond - could have taken it further if I'd wanted to.

stay safe and drive defensively and leave plenty of room, a couple of seconds or even a minute lost is not worth the risk of an accident, if you think we have it bad here try some asian countries.

After driving round Europe for 6 months last year I realised how pathetic, rude and aggressive Australians are - not just on the roads, but in general.

I had only one run in over there (that includes the time when i got into peak our Paris traffic in a T4 van with BRITISH plates) and it was in Germany when a Polish truck driver for some reason decided to pick on me and squeeze me into the armco on an autobarn exit. I still have absolutely no idea why. But as he was veering across two lanes to push me off the road, I stayed put and held my ground. He eventually moved over too far and smashed off his mirror on a tree branch hanging over the highway!!

just be grateful that youre not in melbourne....... what that guy did to your dad intentionally, happens all the time here in melbourne, and when you beep / flash someone, they look at you in such a way, that you can tell that they honestly have no idea that they've done anything wrong.

people keep on saying over and over and over and over again that driving in sydney is bad, but i dont see it. i've driven in sydney a bunch in the last year, and honestly, compared to melbourne, it's pure bliss...

i just think that, given that we live in a land where the simpletons think that reckless driving equates to heightened masculinity, basically you should drive in such a way that you fear for your life, every time you get in the car- give people plenty of room, don't engage people beyond a brief blip on the horn, observe all rules and presume that no-one else on the road knows the rules at all.

[well, ideally. sometimes people do things, however, that does warrant some hand-on-the-horn-for-the-length-of-the-next-block treatment].

So the story goes, some fking idiotic p-plater had the intention of using the inside lane to cut infront of my dad, my dad being the way he is, saw what he was doing and closed the gap so he couldnt get through.
end thread. your dad was the original agressor in the situation.

overtaking on the inside lane isnt the best way to overtake, but i dont think it makes someone idoitic. guarantee almost everyone here has done it at some point.

I completely disagree. I don't think everyone does overtake up the inside lane. It frustrates the hell out of me when traffic is bad and peolpe won't queue like everyone else. I wouldn't have let him in either. The only time I'll use the inside lane to overtake is at a red light and if there are no othere cars in that lane, because I know I'll get the jump on just about anything.

I also don't think his dad was the aggressor. He was provoked by a f#*kstick and why is it that people are so willing to let f#*ksticks get away with being f#*ksticks?

Oh, so the solution to all the worlds problems is just sit back and let anyone get away with whatever they want? Then we can all hold hands and get along. I can't wait...
