Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Bobsy G0-1 Isofix seat

    G'day all,

I really like the look of this one but despite a good search online, am yet to find anybody who will send one to Australia.

Anyone had any success bringing one in?

    Thanks for your assistance.

The problem you will find is that most reputable Australian companies wont get it in for you since it doesn't comply with Australian standards (however crazy the AUS standard is).

If you haven't seen them already, the part number is 000 019 902 D

      And the frames are:

      Subframe for use facing backwards
      Part no. 000 019 728 B

      Subframe for use facing forwards
      Part no. 000 019 729 B
      (grabbed from here.)

Depending on how much you care about cost there is a number of overseas based companies that will purchase and then ship stuff to you or provide you with a US/UK postal address to have stuff shipped to, then forward it to you.

You could try your local VW parts place with the part number and see if they will kindly order the part without looking (although the system might flag it) otherwise it's time to make good friends with someone in another part of the world and get the to buy one for you and ship it to you .

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

        Update on this one...

After a long and fruitless search to try to purchase one in Europe, NZ and in the UK, no success in getting anyone to ship to Australia.

I ultimately got a Britax Duo Plus (same as Bobsy G1 in Jet (great match for the R36 interior) from the UK, had it shipped to a company I do business with in Naples and it has now arrived. No regrets whatsoever. The isofix system is so brilliantly elegant and simple to fit.

There have been many threads with the benefits of Isofix, I for one think it is fantastic.
It would be so easy just moving the seats in and out quickly as required.
However, as Australian Rules are SO outdated and we are not up with the Rest Of The World; it is a real shame!

Good luck with the seat, but for me I will stick with my Safe n Sound AHRs that I have in both my cars.

Can you take a pic of it in the Passat? Do you have one or two (or three)...

So how does it stack up vs what you've been using in the meantime (apart from the simpler fitting)?

You do know that it is illegal to use a non-AU compliant car seat here? It is the same as using a non-AU compliant motorcycle helmet.

I was reading about isofix just recently as I have just bought a booster seat, apparently the reason isofix seats from the EU are not permitted here is because they don't meet the stricter safety standards we have here, mainly because they don't have the anchor strap to the car. Apparently next year there will be isofix seats coming in but they will also have the anchor strap and will have been tested to AU standards.

So as for the comment about AU rules being outdated, actually they are some of the highest safety standards in the world.

The Aussie system is actually not all that bad if it's installed correctly... problem is in many cases it's not. Something the ISO Fix system overcomes. That said it's generally accepted that the ISO Fix system is superior to the Australian standard system. But bottom line is your correct, it's not legal to use anything else.
