Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I reckon an hour or so is debateable... I've done mine before and it took me about 3, on and off. I took about 30 minutes to clean up the surfaces properly and unfortunately I had to manually undo and redo the bolts. Changing the gasket was the easy part hahah....

VW!=Toyota when it comes to mechanical philosophy/design
When i had the Mk3.5 Cabrio I was suprised at how many things were relatively easy to fix compared to other cars.

toyotas are 1) easy to service. 2) Generally reliable. 3) Often a bit of a pain to do repair work to unless you have some of the Special Service Tools.

Maybe the guy at K-Mart just doesn't want to do the job & has quoted high to put her off. I had a roof cleaner do that to me last week $2200k to water blast the lichen off my roof & spray the tiles with bleach afterwards.

NOw my mum took it in the second time to get a proper description of the problem, they said it was leaking and 8,9 hours work. $1400.
the top gasket and bottom needs sealing and on the corner there's a hole.

Take it in to somewhere they know what they're doing! There should be a decent specialist around your area and get a quote from a dealer as well.

get another couple of quotes. I think you'll find the KMart guys don't want the job.

Surely some of the BNE folk can recomend an honest & fair charging repairer near the OPs area.

                This has me puzzled.
Why not ask a Holden dealer for an estimate first. (Estimate, not a quote)
Now I don't know if Apollo did or did not come from Toyota. But check there for a second opinion.
My Toyota dealer (Country town) service charges always less than similar charges in Sydney.
BTW, When my 118TSI arrives, will be serviced at local Holden dealer. (VW, Holden, Mitsubishi, Nissan. hope these guys can
                talk VW properly!)
