Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Le Mans 24 Hour Results (Spoiler Alerts)

AUDI R15 TDIs came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Le Mans 24 hour race.
The winning car did 5405km in 24 hours, the Bathurst 1000 looks small by comparison.
    The R15 is a 5.5L V10 turbo diesel.

"THIS YEARS WINNERS AUDI #9 COMPLETED 397 LAPS (AT A SPEED OF 225.228 KPH) - A NEW DISTANCE RECORD, BEATING THEIR TEAM MATES #8 IN SECOND BY ONE LAP AND THE THIRD AUDI# 7 BY 3 LAPS IN THIRD."

That car looked amazing on the track, a very well put together team

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Sure does.. but Bathurst doesn't run for 24 hours

Was great to see Audi come in at 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Peugoet (or Poojoe, as the americans were saying!) must be devastated.
Mk IV Golf GTI - BMP - GIAC chip, R32 wheels, KW coilovers, rear swaybar.

In 2002 532 laps (3305km) were completed in the Bathurst 24 hr race.
This year the winners covered 4326 km at Daytona's 24 hr race.

Just to add some perspective to the comparison, they are 3 fundamentally different tracks (La Sarthe's backstraight makes Conrod look like a short sprint), and in Bathurst's case, it was a production car race.

Next time please don't put up these kind of results etc in thread titles. Also a spoiler warning is also appropriate. I've got the whole weekends One HD coverage taped and ready to go today and it's a little bit ruined for me now (I'm still going to watch it anyway though).

Ahem, don't get me started on the whole "production car" discussion when Holden/HSV enter a purpose built 427 coupe which never made it into production yet CAMS still honour their victory based on a future homologation run - Strip them I say!

Was better in the 70's, when the race cars were actually what you could buy from the dealership (with exception of an exhaust)
Now days, same gearbox, same diff blah blah blah and no variety.

I'd love to see Audi's and VW's at bathurst up against standard falcons and commodores.

I agree with you entirely. However what I wanted to point out it is hard to compare Bathurst and a purpose built Commodore coupe with Le Mans and the mighty R15.

Good write up on the race.

somewhat disappointing result for Nigel Mansell - turned out to be the Le Mans 24 minute race for him

Nigel needs the moustache so he can get his mojo back. How often can two brothers say "we didn't get a drive because dad crashed the car"?

Has there been any disscussion into what went wrong with the Peugoets?
Was quite sad to see 3 all go out in the same manner : (
But just go's to show slow (consistant) and steady wins the race, ie Audi

conrod straight will be the falcon/commodore saver.

i'd personally like to see people stop whining and re-introduce cars other than the falcon and commoroder. never going to happen though, because the moment you bring something else in, and it beats home grown, all of a sudden it's ''un-awwwstrayyyyuunnn'' and it gets banned.

                            way to promote mediocrity.......
