Hi all,

Im selling my car at the moment. I have a buyer who's interested but now their finance company wants the following from me:

* Copy of your drivers licence (certified by police officer)

* copy of Medicare card (certified by police officer)

* Proof of your address (Rates notice or phone bill showing your name and address)

* Bank statement for the account you wish to have the balance of funds transferred to.

* copy of the registration papers

* Home phone number and mobile number to be supplied

I thought I only need to show them my lisence when i'm filling out the REGO transfer paper. Im confused to why they need my details...

I've bought and sold many cars and have never heard of having to give anyone that sort of information. I wouldn't be giving them more than perhaps the registration information. They can do a REVS check or whatever they need from there.

That doesn't sound very "normal" - find out the finance company they are using and do some checks of your own (it may shed some light on the situation).
I have never ever heard of all that information being needed for finance, especially when you're the seller.
Or alternatively - if your car you are selling is still under finance, go to your finance co and let them know what they're asking for and see if they think it is OK because they would have a better idea.

Personally - if someone asked me for all that info (Medicare No???? WTF) i'd be very concerned.

Is the car a Lada Niva or something else ridiculous nobody would want to buy?
That, to me, sounds like a stupid amount of effort to sell a car.

Just find a different buyer, if you think you can!

This seriously sounds like a scam, I wouldn't tell them anything and re-advertise.

I had my car on carsales for a few weeks. But pretty much the buyer's finance company contacted me, but they told me they need me to get my license,etc.. copied for them. Back in my mind i was WTF i'm the seller and why would I need to give them. Like one of the guys said here, they can always do a REVS check.

I'm calling VW finance and ask them what's the best thing to do, cause WTF do they need my medicare card!

yep, ull be the one repaying the finance if u hand over that info ...and u wont own the car either. clever scam.

I know finance companies may want a little information, but that does seem a little over the top. They need to know the car is clear of finance (or will be once they pay for it) and that the title can be transferred, not a lot more than that really.
