Someone that appears to be dirty on anyone for having a desk job, yet spent a fair amount of time replying to this thread today.

Back to the thread... The Mk5 seems to be catching the Mk6, yet the Mk4 looks to be way out in front.
I'll be the first to say no one knows it all incl. myself.

The reason why I'm on here today is cause 4 years ago I crushed my spine working in a produce factory supplying supermarkets which put food on the tables in VIC, NSW & SA!.

So I'm limited to 3 days a week back it the trade I've been working in for 15+years.

Call me weak? I'd like to see how some of you survive with a crushed spine driving 600+km each week then working without pain killers until you can get home & get some meds into you.

        Oh. Manaz

        Its a Turbo-Hydramatic 700.

Not a Jatco. they were fitted to VL's & various other models

Why are we comparing Holdens with VWs again? From a business point of veiw they are completly different products.
From what i see a HSV is a cheap car that goes as fast or faster than expensive cars. Its selling point is that if you want a car that can go that fast you have to spend twise as much.
Where as the R36 is a fancy pants car that just happens to be a bit quick. Its selling point is buy it coz its a bit quick and a bit fancy and people will think you have more money than a HSV driver.

This doesnt apply to you tim but i jsut wana say that just because someone has worked in an industry for a long time doesnt mean they are experts in that industry. I dont work in the in car entertainment industry but i sure as **** know a **** load more that alot of people who do or people who claim they are experts.
e.g. if you have been working in an industry for you whole life and you have been **** at it, than you probly wont have any more knowledge than someone who does it as a hobbie for a couple of yrs.

A great example of that is car sales people. a LOT of them don't know the details of the products they're selling as well as the potential enthusiast customers... Note I said "a lot" of them, not "all" of them. There are some that know EVERYTHING about the product they're selling - as it should be really.

I chose the MkIV R, great looking cars with lots of cool stuff over the regular MkIVs. I'm not a mechanic or anything but that model is the model that I feel the most connection to.

I also think that this irrelevant argument HSV/Ford vs VW is stupid. The fact that this is an automotive forum (a VW one at that) means that it is inhabited by two main types of people:
                    a) people who come here to resolve issues or get information on the issues the may have with a new or used car (or prospective purchasers)
                    And
                    b) people who are die-hard car guys and girls who are really into VWs.

It's not hard to realise that the majority of threads in the newer model sections (and older too) are concerned with problems. Obviously not everyone who buys a new car goes onto a forum to sing its praise; they're wanting to solve issues and get advice. Thus there is an inbalance and we see more people with problems.

My understanding was that the drivetrains from the VL were meant to transfer to the VN, along with the chassis design, but at the last minute, the RB30 got dropped due to a strengthening Yen, and was replaced with the Buick-designed but locally built 3.8L V6 (resulting in early VNs actually having welded headers rather than cast because time really was that short).

I thought the Jatco had made it through still, and wasn't replaced until the VP.

As I said, more than happy to have my knowledge questioned - I'm just here to learn!

If I had the cash I'd go a mk4 with a supercharger. It'd be a mad car, but practicality would be low for fuel consumption, so I'd probably end up with a mk5 GTI.

But yeah, mk4's look the best I reckon. Seats are sick as.
