Apparently 3 out of 4 people who wear cardigans believe 90km/h is appropriate for country roads.....bye bye road trips

MOST drivers believe a speed limit is not the maximum but an approximate indicator of what speed to drive.Nothing to see here...

That's interesting.
On one hand; you have a group of people wanting to up the speed limit because it's safer.
On the other; you have a group of people wanting to lower it because they'll feel safer.
Shouldn't you just drive to suit the condition? I.e. if the gravel road is posted at 100, you don't have to go 100 along the road. You do what's safe. I thought that was standard driver practice (hazard perception).2002 Volkswagen Bora V5 - 2007 Mazda 3 GT - 1998 Ford Contour Sport - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0T - 2013 Volkswagen Passat 130TDI - 2015 Ford Escape 1.5 - 2016 Subaru WRX - 2018 Volkswagen Golf R Wolfsburg Wagon

I was always told the speed limit was only for perfect conditions, obviously more cars, rain, night, etc ment slow down.

Well I must be one of the 3 per 100 that admits to having ever broken a speed limit. ONLY three in every 100 drivers said they had never broken the speed limit.
Means that 97 out of every 100 admit to having broke the limit.....

would love to see the age group of the respondents... For a grey nomad towing a caravan across the country, 90km/h is totally acceptable (42% of respondent live in SA, which isn't exactly known for it's youthful vibrance - no offence). For anyone else that still possesses control of all bodily functions, it's a bloody silly idea considering late model vehicle specifications and distances required to travel from one town/city to the next.Track Car: 06 Polo GTI Red Devil mkII
Daily: 2010 VW Jetta Highline
Gone but not forgotten: 08 Polo GTI

what a wank. I voted no on the web poll. It shows that the public who read that article (nearly 92%) also voted no.
I wonder where they got their data from.
Just unbelievable. Really. This countries road rules are truly becoming an utter joke!VW: it aint just a car, its a way of life

Here's the full report. It's just a study - no need to panic. The media is what's woeful!
It's actually an interesting report to read.
The problem with driver fatigue is that speed limitss are TOO SLOW. Meaning people fall asleep. Even country police support INCREASING speed limits as you need to pay more attention to what you're doing. But along with EVERYTHING driving related in Australia, it relies on a much better driver education system. Proper driver education and driver attitude assesments BEFORE letting anyone behind the wheel. THAT'S what needs to change first.Last edited by Rocket36; 31-03-2010, 02:48 PM.
