You just have to take all news with a grain of salt. It also helps to realise that news is now used also as a chance for high exposure to sell advertising from, as well as a place to broadcast 'news', hence the reason that it's usually a bit sensationalist in its delivery and production.

A good example of sensationalised news at the moment is the news of this Cyclone that was supposedly meant to hit us 2 days ago, but is now still sitting 1000km off the coast with very little prospect of coming near us...Another white elephant..."If can't get behind your troops, feel free to stand in front of them..."
