Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

The fact we have a whole section attributed to sport makes it all the more stupid when the main news reports on yep, sport too

What you all seem to be missing is that the news program isn't there to inform you, it is there to sell advertising. On ABC Sydney radio the other morning, someone was on the Sydney Morning Herald website. This tells you how many others are reading the same story. Chile earthquake 2. Fiji cyclone 1. Lara Bingle 580!!

As Barry Humphries(IIRC) once said. "nobody went broke underestimating the taste of the Australian public"

yeah. that gets my goat, actually.

first, there's the news. then, before the game, then the game, then the post match show which is marketed as somewhat more analytical of the game, then the ''news'' in which there's a brief, tiny tiny tiny scratching of the surface of what's going on in world news, THEN something local (in melbourne, it'll most likely be about brutal violence, or sexual assault, or a mixture of both), then the remaining 45% of the report being about football football football.

ghey. and it IS ghey. how many times i've come across commentary on the radio: "oh and the BIG MAN launches a huge kick to the forward half, oh person A and person B are going for the mark, oh well taken person B! a beautiful mark by the BIG MAN from (insert place). he's lining up for goal, goes for the kick, there it goes....... what a mark! someone from the opposing team saved the goal! what a mark from the BIG MAN!!! what a BIG MAN!!! look at those big hands! look at those deliciously big, powerful thighs! look at those big, thick, accommodating arms! arms that could wrap you up and hold you tight just as easily as taking a mark like the big man just took now!"

          yeah. ghey.

19 posts and counting.... your answer is in the self perpetuating reactions to such "news". If people really did ACTUALLY IGNORE this BS, the social commentators who pass themselves off as journalists would actually have to go and learn how to report new. Bring back the likes of George Negas (spelling?) and true investigative reporting on domestic and current affairs.

90% of my tv viewing is recorded quality stuff, watched at a time of my choice with adverts and credits skipped over

and Ive never watched ANY shows about gossip, celebrities, cooking, gardening, lifestyle, big brothers, weigh-loss, dancing, soap operas, etc

the only time I might lower my standards is if a questionable show has some snow in it, then all is forgiven!!

Got Foxtel in lounge & bedroom as Aussie tv is somewhat lacking although Australian Apprentice made for entertaining viewing I thought. I'm a big fan of reality stuff (I'm a celeb get me out) just not Biggest loser!

do you watch the ballistyx show gareth?

as for the biggest loser.... there must be much, much fatter people sitting at home watching that show- are fit/ healthy people really that interested in watching people who have neglected their health, lose weight?

as a fat bastard myself, that's why im opting to take the dog for a walk these days instead of simply watching shyte like australian karaoke championships (aussie idol).

i love cooking shows. make me hungry!

I actually took this summer off (from building a car) and sat down and watched the entire 10 seasons of friends (over like 4 months)

There are a few shows out there worth watching. But most finished production a while ago! (ie most of todays stuff is rubbish. yet I still sit down and watch some of it)

scott, I first watched it on channel Go, lunchtime saturdays during winter, then watched the re-runs during the winter olympics. I'm not really into parks anbd jibbing, i'm more a groomer and wanting to get into a bit more backcountry.

biggest Loser? I certainly have a bit of respect for them to try and lose some weight, but that respect tends to start from a very low base, because they allowed them to get that size in the first place. And does it really need them to be a celebrity before they are willing to try?

I'm a bit of a fitness fanatic, with 4-5 taekwondo/kickboxing sessions and 2 gym sessions every week and i get really annoyed when i put on 0.5kg over christmas!! LOL.

Taking your dog for a walk is a great start, but you need to get your heart rate up, so think about kicking or throwing a ball round with the dog instead

yeah, actually, cooking shows are legit for sure. i watched ramsey's kitchen nightmares the other night- the mexican restaurant one.

i love his ability to dress someone down to their soul, to insult them and humiliate them, and then say "mate, let's work together, WE can do this *pat on back*".

walking the dog is something i do when im bored, but its not my exercise base- that's what wii fit step aerobics is for lol (documenting it for a website). just abit hindered at the moment by damaged shoulder ligaments, so no upper body for me until they heal.

so gareth, you like groomers eh? i think i might know the place for you:

im standing on a run which had a min. incline of 19 degrees, max 24, it's 2.6km long, 60-100 meters wide at its various points down the hill, groomed down the middle with untouched powder (20 or so meters) down each side at 3 in the afternoon.

and the mountain behind me, with the runs? that's lit up until 9pm.

                          rusutsu ftw.

i think jarred did it because he was lacking motivation in the garage.

so of course, he sits down and watches friends, which is awesome because it essentially begins to boil his blood and feed his fury, to the point that he's regained his motivation again.

i do that with full house.
