Cops are highly trained, it's a shame that the average motorist is not trained to anywhere near the level that the cops are.

There have been a few cases in NSW where an officer has pulled over a vehicle in the fast lane and caused a severe accident. (this is going back ~10 years ago). There was another one where a similar situation as the one above where the officer was actually hit by a car, had no escape route once he was on the road. Work cover investigated and actually took the Police force to town with no documentation for the location (such as a safe work method state or risk assessment etc).

Since then cops won't go onto the road if you're doing 80+ km to pull you over unless they have some sort of traffic control in place otherwise they will get in the car and follow you and pull you over that way or work in tandem at the location.

While I was on leave at Xmas in Sydney, I was subjected to a random drug and alcohol test. I have no problem with either, but what really surprised and angered me was where they set up their position.
It was set up on the slow lane on the northern distributor off the Harbour Bridge, on a largely blind corner just before an off ramp. This effectively made a 3 lane freeway into 1 lane in a 100km/h zone. While cars were trying to change lanes, and getting selected to be pulled over, there were nearly 3 accidents. It was extremely surprising and dangerous that the police would set up in that area.

You should have seen this retarded highway patrolman that left his car blocking the only southbound lane of traffic near my dealership...

the cop had pulled a guy over in an old camry and they were both out of the car. the guy's camry was perfectly parallel parked against the kerb while the cop just nosed in and left about 40% of his car covering more then 70% of the lane. A few people beeped!

I have huge problems with police operation locations too. There's an RBT every now and then set up on the ramp coming off james ruse drive onto victoria rd (heading toward city). It's set up in the lane that needs to be free for merging, so it's a nightmare every single time. If cops are well trained, I'm a genius.

That's standard practice. They are trained to do it that way to minimise idiots trying to hit them while they are on the road.

Blitzen, you could have been a smart arse and asked to see their Traffic Control Plan (TCP), for a planned operation like that I would think they would/should have one!

I was more mentioning what I did in regards to defects. Any thing can be counted as a defect if a cop wants to see it that way.

Geez, who'd wanna be a copper? They're never around when you need one but when they are around they get you for speeding. They get overpaid for work we'd never want to do. We'd all be so much better off without 'em. Crime just wouldn't exist 'cause we'd have it under control.. pfft

Bottom line is no-one likes cops due to traffic enforcement, but someone has to do it. For all the other things they have to do, I don't reckon any amount of pay is enough. It's just such a shame you "tend" to get the kids who got picked on at school in traffic branch, and they do taint the entire force.

It's draconian government policy I have a problem with, not the employees made to enforce it.

It's alright anyway. Soon there will be no highway patrols and traffic cops etc anyway. Apparently point to point speed cameras, fixed speed cameras, red light cameras and camera vehicles, will catch people talking on the phone, drink driving, driving erratically at or below the speed limit, hogging the right lane and all the other general piss poor driving that they don't bother picking anyone up on anyway because they can't make a buck from it.

As an entire nation whole, we can't drive at all. The Governments and the Police forces do nothing to help or to improve this. They in fact are only making it worse.

I fully support the police in their hard and thankless job (at least on this forum..) and have been on the recieving end of an irrisponsible driver, losing my dad at 11yo.
No money would be enough to get me to do that job, attending gruesome accidents, getting abused, attending family homes to announce deaths etc...
Endless paperwork at the end of shifts. For what?? Cause some idiots think its ok to break the law or drive dangerously in dangerous or dangerously modified cars?
Nah, they do a great job, pity everyone cant do there share of being responsible.
Its not all about revenue, its called safety and appropiate fines are handed out most of the time.
If you arent doing anything wrong then you have no problems, apart from watching out for the gooses out there that think they know all and can drive better than anyone else. Fools!

I've never met a highway patrol person who wasn't a ****, normal coppers I've never had a problem with, but highway patrol, whether you're in trouble (or not!) are always ****s.

I know a couple of general duties cops who fully support this opinion too.

That's a pretty general quote mate. I doubt you've met many if you can make a statement like that.

I met a dentist who cause me great pain once but I don't dislike all dentists because of that.

That's a very general quote, I deal with HWP a few times a year, and really most if not all of them are excellent to deal with.

Police Force is a very large organisation and every organisation has good and bad people who work for them.
