Saw a recent episode, which left me speechless.

a young girl was clocked at 151km/h on a Victorian multi-lane highway in what looked a like a recent model BMW coupe, what left me speechless was the cops comments.

the stationary cops run out onto the highway to flag the girl down (she was in the right hand side lane) and then complain she took a 100m to stop, ..... what was she supposed to do slam on the brakes and verve suddenly across from the os lane ..... that would have been a safe and sensible manoeuvre !

and the senior cops says ...she would have known she was going 151km/h because the engine would have been screaming ....... gee in a German car made to travel on the autobahn, I doubt the BMW would have been screaming its head off. .... neither would the SS commodore the cop had, be screaming its head off at 150km/h

you point being cops aren't always the brightest?

They might know the law, but that doesn't nessecarily mean they know cars!

151kph on a multi-lane highway isn't very fast at all in most modern cars. Considering the cop's drive V8 Commodores that at 120kph are turning over at 2200rpm, I find it hard amazing that a cop would say that. Unless it was just for the cameras and "shock" factor.

When the asian lady got pulled over by the unmarked cop car and they said she was using her mobile and she was adament that she wasn't. I know she was carrying on and all, but when she offered her phone to them to prove she was't using it, why didn't they check it.
Thought that might've cleared up any doubt.

cant stand highway patrol cops.... dont even start me on the bull**** they pull.

fight some real crime, not someone doing 62 in a 60 zone.

Problem is whilever there are people breaking the rules on the road, we will NEED highway patrol.

Quickest way to see the end of them is for everyone to obey the rules. Simple as that.

look i totally agree with that. When someone is endangering their life and everyone's around then, by all means pull them up... ie, doing 100 in a residential street, weaving in and out of traffic at a stupid rate etc.

I just can't stand it when they pull people over for the tiniest little thing, which is obvious revenue raising.

Because it's against the law. And unfortunately, it's black and white.

Yes it does raise revenue but the easiest way for the govt. to lose money is for people to not break the law. They really aren't hard laws to obey wither.

I love the comment I've heard somewhere before of "I had to do x speed just to catch up to you" from cops. Do they not understand that if they were to do the same speed they'd stay the same distance away from said vehicle they are following.

I think they should focus more on other stuff too; general stupidity and acts that show a lack of respect for fellow road users. The other week I saw a bloke reversing down the highway 150m because he missed an exit; I saw some woman texting through a round about and almost smash into a wall, causing the whole traffic back up to slam their brakes too. Weaving as well as not indicating is a shocking one too.

But these acts that you would think are the most dangerous are not nearly as clear to govern as say an offence of 70 in a 60 zone. This is the problem. Cops aren't stupid and they have a ****e job to do with people that don't respect them; so maybe they need better, more rigorous training to ensure they fullly understand the laws they enforce.

Too easy to wipe recent calls.

Accept the booking, ask phone company for record of the phone calls to/from the phone, prove that there were no calls, have the fine dismissed in court. Hardly difficult, certainly better than acting like an arsehat in front of a camera to a cop who, love him or hate him, is just doing the job he's paid to do (don't think for a second that each individual cop decides what he'll be doing at a given time when on duty).

Works in theory, but she could have been texting, twittering, looking at pics, sending emails, looking for a map etc etc etc.

My understanding is that you are not allowed touch a phone while driving. Could bewrong though.

I have always found that if you are polite to the police, they will help you out. I have only had one occasion face to face with an officer where my fine wasn't reduced or let go completely (and I have been pulled over alot!!). Speed cameras are my main reason for my loss of points.

So I give you this advice...

ALWAYS pull over in an area that is safe to you and the cop.
ALWAYS be polite and courteous.
Plead ignorance...(But office, last time I came through here, it was a 90km/h zone... Let me off when I did 96 in a 70 zone).

This is tongue in cheek people...Don't speed like me, I'm naughty, but the above has worked for me...

What says it all is that she was doing 150 Km/h which is significantly above the limit and if she was not aware that she was so far above the limit she does not deserve to hold a licence.

We should not be portraying the cops as bad guys and / or ignorant here, the fault lies with the driver and perhaps if any of us were the ones that had to attend the myriad of fatal accidents caused by excessive speed that we see on an incredibly regular basis we might take a different point of view.

The comments expressed are secondary to the issue which is an inexperienced driver driving at excessive speed.
