Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Corporate Discounts? Which ones?

  • Would a university employee doing a novated lease through work be eligible for the corporate plus discount, or is it the case that there is a specific list of entities that are eligible and possibly only some or even no universities count?

I read the PDF link that was posted earlier, half of the 10% discount is coming from VW Australia, does that mean I will have an easier time negotiating with the dealer and they will be happier too to have me as a customer rather than the average joe haggling his 10% which fully comes from their margin?

    • I have a question / concern .... (maybe Dermot can shed some light on this)

I signed my contract back in October and am eligible for the the Corporate Plus discount. On the contract the dealer put in a clause saying that the negotiated price is dependent on filling out the Corporate discount template and having it signed off by HR on company letterhead. Part of the clause also stated, if I could not provide this letter the price of the car would be the negotiated price plus a further $1600.

I have since got this letter signed and i have sent it off to the dealer (it was dated early January 2011). The ETA for deliver on my contract was for February 2011 (but this is now delayed to may/jun).

My question is that: Am i still eligible for the discount, if when i take delivery I am no longer working at this particular company (given that i have already provided the letter)?

The reason I ask this is because when i spoke to the dealer (after forwarding him the letter) he said thanks, but closer to the delivery date he'll require another letter to make sure im still at the company.

      • Some of the info in this thread may be out of date.
I recently contracted for a Polo GTI and was expecting a reasonable corporate discount based on experience of a co worker last year.
As of Jan 1, 2011, the corporate rate has changed significantly.

For example, I was given $600 discount and dealer delivery of $1395 for my vehicle. This was confirmed for me by VW Australia corporate business department.

My co worker purchased a Golf GTI last year and was offered a flat 10% off the RRP. This is a significant difference.

I would say that most of the information is out of date.

I would also say that threads like this is part of the reason that the information is in fact out of date.

VWA will ring an employer who provides a letter, not all, but just pick them at random to confirm the company wrote the letter and the information in it is correct. It stops certain "Dodgy Dealers" creating letters.
If when i take delivery i am with a new employer who also is eligible for a corporate plus discount would there be any issue there (give i have provided the required letter) ?
