Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • Yeah they may have done that Dermot. The only things they obtained from my wife was her drivers licence and also her ANF card.

They showed that for a Polo the Corporate discount was only $250 and the Corporate Plus was only $600, but I did get the price down further than that. I didn't totally screw them, I see others on this forum managed to squeeze ~$300 more out of the price from what I paid but I wasn't out to totally break their balls. The sales person was a really nice guy (not sleazy or pushy and was quite happy to help with test drives and spend time with us, he seemed.. dare I say it... almost human).

Seriously though.. I'd recommend my friends to go to him if they are in the market for a car, for those in Victoria. Daniel Trinh of Barlowworld Volkswagen in Glen Waverley, he only just started there after coming over from Ford. Funny enough, I did a couple of Ford Fiesta test drives with him a couple of weeks ago. The Polo is so much more refined.

      Regards,
      Dave.

I think this corporate discount thing is a bit of smoke and mirrors negotiation game. I would not trust 100% what they show you as discount amount applicable.

Only an insider would know the exact amount a dealer gets back from VWA after providing the proper paperwork.

Not sure how trustable this document is.. but this is what i could find from the internet.

I doubt that anyone would be bored enough to write this up though...

            • Don't fully understand idea behind Corporate discount:
if it was purchased by company - OK - discount for that company
but Corporate discount for privately purchased car (even if it is Novated Lease)

I would like to see something like loyalty discount - VW should officially reword your loyalty to "VW Brand" (and not your "employment" or "membership") - if it is Your second, third, fourth ....VW - you deserve that discount.

              just my opinion

The dealership showed me the discount on the Golf R from their documentation for corporate, the rest of the discounting was at their discretion

Yep, I like that as well. My R was actually my third purchase from my dealer in the past 2 years (due to my MKV GTI being written off and then needing a temp car to last until the MK6 GTI arrived, which then changed into the R arriving etc). But really, the sales guy that I used for the first two wasn't there anymore etc, and so it basically just came down to my negotiation skills.

If you exclude novated leases then there probably wouldn't be many corporate purchases of VW passenger cars. Possible commercial vehicles.

Whilst VAG is the one umbrella in Germany, I believe that Audi Australia (or whatever they're called) and Volkswagen Group Australia are separate companies.

                        • I just bought my Golf Wagon 118tsi from Central Coast Motor Group at Gosford. Got a 9.5% discount without a corporate membership. Really positive experience. Did the deal over the phone. Took some talking but they were great at getting me the car I wanted at the right price.
