Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Its closer to like 5.6, and that's with a 7k launch. There's that much traction in those things you have to annihilate your clutch to get a 1/2 decent start...
Fair enough I agree with that, my point being, much quicker than a Bora VR6 4 motion.

we are not talking about a bora v6 4motion, its the mk3 vr6 we are comparing. i was sarcastic if you didn't notice

and as i remember a vr6 is even slower than a 4mo, 0-100 at 7.8 (if you are lucky)

the only car that a 4mo can beat is an xr5 turbo, if that is caught off boost. but a stock vr6 will struggle to keep up with a honda accord euro

ps: take time reading the posts next time

I've driven both, and really the Bora is only quicker than a VR6 up to 60 and in a 3rd gear pull it'd definitely begin to fall behind. The VR6 has gearing to tall for first and 2nd, thats where it looses alot of time, although after that it definitely compensates!
"Road test found 0-60mph takes 7.2 sec, which is marginally slower than the old VR6’s 7.1 sec. 0-100mph in 18.2 sec versus old car’s 18.7 sec"

I think it really comes down to who's penis is longer..

Christ does it really matter? They're both not quick, an Evo is. Period.

Enough about the VR6 vs Evo debate... If the VR6's were ever designed/marketed as road rockets, then I am sure VW would have exploited that angle.

The most I could find that VW did with the Bora V6 4mo was to enter it into the Targa Tassie, at the hands of Simon Evans... Other than that the R32 and Super Beetles did the other Racing duties.

The Super Beetles with the VR6 in them? They were pretty cool. They weren't very good, but still pretty cool.. Haha.

Who gives a ****? A Bora V6 and Golf VR6 are both slow! An EVO would rape both of them!

my mk1 cabriolet with 1.5 D beats EVO's all year long....

                              ....

                              ....in fuel economy.

infact, it beats evo's, STI's, v8's, Vr's and 20VT's on any race more than 700km and on public hiways

jesus christ almighty! for people who supposedly part of a community, you guys sure know how to rip on each other sometimes.......

i dont doubt that evo's are blindingly fast- one near work had my jaw drop when he planted it. i've never seen anything that fast in first gear acceleration on the street.

but the way some of the people on here emphasise how goddamn slow all volkswagens are, it makes me wonder why the hell ive been encouraged by more than one person to participate in hillclimbs in my ****ty tdi with just intake, ic ductwork and a chip.

also makes me wonder why the hell i wasnt blown the frick out of my seat when i took a ride in my cousins s15 r spec with aftermarket ic, oil cooler, ecu, remap, full exhaust, reworked intake, etc etc. to be completely honest, as sweet as the car looks and sounds, and despite of the bad-ass exhaust pop and plumes of fire every now and then when he releases the go pedal, i was expecting much, much more, given how certain many members here are that vw's are all slow, no matter what.

every time i get in a car that others here allege will grill all vw's except for dedicated track cars, i still am confused as to why they dont seem to be as impressive as they should be, given how slow and incapable all our cars are.
