I'm with Shannons for all my cars and now my greenslips too. They were cheap and better than my previous insurer so it was a no brainer, although I really should double check these things again this year (since I try to do it every year to make sure I'm getting best value).

Reality is my postcard screws me most of all, both cars are $800 ish for 30 year old drivers with good history, it's all about the post code unfortunately.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

When I was in the purchase stage of my MKIV R32, I called Shannon's and was told that I don't qualify as an enthusiast. Went with Just Car, $1100 with rating one. Not bad.

Question - if you go for agreed, what level do you set it at ? The cost of the car at the time you bought it, or something a bit less which is more reasonable ?

I just did an online quote with them and they wont even insure my car! Apperently because of the mods. Its lowered and it has a CAI, and a DVD player. RAC is fine with all this

I would never recommend anyone to use youi for insurance. They have an extreme amount of fine print and anything they can find within that fine print they will use not to pay your claim. They were forced by FIO to pay mine. BEWARE!!!!

I would not recommend AAMI either. Dodgy repairers, no choice, and on a recent claim with my wife we had to go through the ombudsman to get her excess back as they said she was at fault, even though the police found the other party at fault!

Well I think Shannons is the winner in this thread.
They do our stock daily driver, the GTI, 770 Charger, heavily modded S3 RX7 and our house!

                    I'd never go with anyone that doesn't give;
                    1. First option to buy the wreck
                    2. Choice of repairer
                    3. Agreed value
                    4. House cover that covers 10K for car parts/tools etc from the garage.
Mk IV Golf GTI - BMP - GIAC chip, R32 wheels, KW coilovers, rear swaybar.

Feedback? They wouldn't insure my last Jetta (TDI) because it had been lowered by 30mm.

Assuming youi car insurance is anything like their home insurance then don't go near them they will use every little clause to try and ger out of your claim and even lie about what happened. We are currently in the process of fighting a disputed claim and will likely go the the ombudsman and or vcat. They will also try and get you in cheap then up your premium and excess. I'd rate Allianz pretty highly even though they are expensive.

emtee - what happened in your case or pm me

I have a 2009 Gt golf Diesel, and just received my renewal and was pleasantly surprised ,The amount its insured for hasn't changed that much from last year $33,400 and last year i paid the same premium $882 ,so I'm happy and i only pay $400 excess as I'm the only driver ,

Not sure if you guys realise this thread is pretty old...

I had a positive experience with NRMA though with my old car, they pretty much paid out no questions asked when I wrote off my old car, even though I hadn't listed a single modification and the list of things on it that were illegal would have filled pages... They wouldn't let me buy the wreck back though or even offer any sort of help in that regard, wouldn't even tell me which auction company it was going through. I'm sure if they'd actually inspected the car they wouldn't have paid so I was quite lucky in that regard, if it was a more expensive car they may have been much more thorough, as my car was worth relatively little. Still, I'd probably go with them again.

Shannons is my choice my bug, laser, bora and house is with them.
i had AAMI before and going to Shannons saved me $90 a month.
With AAMI when your car gets repaired they use 2nd hand parts and they only pay minimum for the paint meaning they wont spray that door etc to blend your colour.

And Allianz are crap when i put 18s on my hiace i rang them up to notify it had rims they cancelled my insurance and wouldnt refund my left over amount which was 9 months worth so they can get f%$#!?

try Shannons their the best out there.
                              good luck

I found youi to be one of the most expensive, even after answering a zillion questions about how you use your car, how it's kept etc etc ETC (<4000km and LUG in my case)

ended up going with NRMA who were not only cheap but covered mods as long as you kept receipts.
