Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • T5 door lock problems

Hi All, I have a 2008 T5 with door lock problems.
1st question, after being quoted $460 by VW dealer just to buy an original door lock , am considering an eBay model for under $100. But have read the cheapies are crap and don’t last long. Thoughts anyone?
2nd question, thinking if I have to buy a lock anyway, trying to get a lock and handle with key hole designed for a left hand drive model. Certain European countries drive from left side. That way I can use a key on either side. Don’t even know if that’s doable? Maybe just buy the exterior handle with key and lock and a linkage to go to the catch?
