Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Agreed.
I suspect only Toyota could probably afford to hold out and not suffer much in the sales race as their market is traditionally looking for an appliance and/or brain dead.

The people who buy them deserve what they get IMO.
Happy about the 5yr warranty BTW, less happy that my 1 yr old Golf wont be covered by it, nor the fact that the Golf was likely to be my last VW ....Last edited by Sharkie; 17-12-2018, 04:33 PM.Current: 2023 MY23 T-Roc R Lapiz Blue + Beats Audio + Black pack 2018 MY19 Golf R manual Lapiz Blue + DAP) 2018 MY18 Golf 110TSI (150TSI) Trendline manual White2014 Amarok TSI Red (tuned over 200kw + lots of extras) 2013 Up! manual Red 2017 Polo GTI manual Black Previous VWs and some others ...

The two biggest knocks I hear on Amarok when talking with non-car people is the reliability question (five year warranty tick) and the lack of the rear airbags if they have kids (fat red cross). Presumably the latter only will finally be rectified on a Gen 2 Amarok.
I'd keep playing with the Mustang (and I'm not a Ford guy by any stretch).

Yeah my Amarok is 5 years old as well and not a single issue, very reliable.
Usually the brands with the reliability issues put the longer warranty first just to lure the customers in. Just like Hyundai who came with 5years/130,000km warranty after the recall on the front crossmember (not enough spotwelds).
The one think to remember is that the warranty doesn’t cover the normal wear. Honda was last car company who jump from 2years/75,000km to 3 years warranty. Why? Because the Honda buyers hardly ever need the reassurance of the warranty.Performance Tunes from $850Wrecking RS OCTAVIA 2 Link

It was always going to happen with Australian consumer laws going down the path of reasonable service life. Once a manufacturer offers a five year warranty, even briefly, they open the door for claims from the same or similar vehicles after the factory warranty ends.
While extended warranty was originally offered to entice buyers to less established brands any manufacturer that had a reliability question (such as VW has had with DSG and twin charging) was, and is, going to offer extended warranty to offset the negativity and blunt the advantage sought by the so called lesser brands (that always seem to lead the way with extended warranty).2015 Jetta Highline

For companies such as VW who are well entrenched in a market it is the weight of public opinion and legislation that is the main cause of change.Last edited by Transporter; 19-12-2018, 02:29 PM.Performance Tunes from $850Wrecking RS OCTAVIA 2 Link
