Thank you Frantic nice to find someone on my side for a change , we got screwed by the dealers well and truly when we went to trade our T5 2.5 turbo with the dreaded "sealed for life " auto . We were going to buy a new T5.1 Transporter so we presented to the dealer our family van all fitted with a custom interior full glass and bucket loads of comfort extras , only 120000 kmh with full service history . So the valuer inspects the van walks back to the salesman and in full view and earshot of me and others tells him " its an automatic I wouldn't trust it " So in that moment we knew VW dealers were well aware of the failings of VW's autos and did not want them for sale at VW dealerships in case they failed with a new owner . So a van that was worth according to various sales guides around $15000 was now according to this moron worth only between $4000 and $6000 . I eventually sold it privately and bought the new one outright . I know not everyone would have similar problems but it does leave a nasty taste in your mouth , not to mention the pain of being nearly screwed and they wouldn't have the decency to use lubricant !!

Sprinters use a traditional auto so should be good for at least 250-300,000km , listen to sunny, talking about vw autos in transporter’s . Basically how long would you have kept your job if 30% of the auto delivery vans had a $12,000 repair bill and 3 weeks each off the road, just outside warranty ? Whereas the sub-contractor in his older manual only had a $1000 bill and a day in the mechanics with a manual with 2-3 times the km. Our multivan(transporter with airbags and seats) lost the dsg at 140,000km and a massive bill.
Also as fleet manager how would you go with the lowest residuals for almost any vehicle this side of a daewoo ? 15-20% at 140,000km 6 years old.

I haven't been here for a while but I find it difficult to understand this post. Put simply no fleet is ever going to equip with manuals no matter what.
