Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

My first VW was an 06 Jetta and it was built in Mexico. My recollection is that a few years down the track, they switched production for Australia to South Africa but I may stand corrected on that.

I know it’s off topic, but I think it’s cool how vehicles are sourced from so many different locations around the world. Sort of a case of different plants within the same brand ‘bidding’ for the job of building a vehicle to X specification. The logistics are awesome from a nerdy perspective

            Olé!

You can join my Poznan celebration (The Poznań - Wikipedia ) that my Caddy comes from the VW factory in Poznan, Poland and therefore appears (at this point in time until further advice is made available) not to be fitted with the claymore anti-personnel mine option.

              Great description, LOL!

Don't celebrate too early, mine was built in Portugal and from info I've gleaned from another forum, I'm fairly certain mine is fitted with this undesirable option!

                Hot off the press.

Future Takata airbag recalls | Product Safety Australia

Updated lists of VW vehicles involved in the Takata airbag recall (including an attachment with every VW VIN). The updated list now appears to include CC, B6 Passat, Golf,Eos, and Crafter 2006-2016 but a check of the VIN list indicates my 2007 Mk5 Golf is not on the list.

Need to know whether those VINs belong to vehicles with the faulty airbags, or vehicles that might have the faulty airbags.

All I can see is that they're being recalled. Doesn't really state if it's for an inspection, or for rectification.

My Transporter is not on the list. Seems to be MY08-onwards. Mine is an '07 build MY07. Doing a Ctrl-F on the list, and then adding the model year indicator, seems to only filter out anywhere between 800 and 1100 cars per year for the Transporter van at least (Multivan and Caravelle, and cab-chassis use a slightly different VIN, which I've not looked into yet). I'd be surprised if that's all sold in Aust.

Strange, our Golf falls in the date range as expected but the VIN range is missing so I wonder if that list is complete.

With Mazda recalls, if it got the nod and was recalled it was for replacement, I don't see how looking at it would do anything.

                    • Looking confirms that it is 100% good or bad, without needless replacement.

                      • How does that work, have you got xray vision to look inside an explosive canister then the ability to assess the contents operative life span?

                        • They will have ways of identifying the airbags with date codes, part numbers, and so on.

                          • I thought they had just published that list.

                            • That's why I suggested there needs to be some clarification on what they're doing.

                              • I give up, you haven't got any practical idea of what is involved at all. How do you assess any explosive canister for a working life span by looking at it? If you can do that you would have saved the industry billions of dollars.
