                    half yearly update...
since taking out the rear seats, spare etc the back was sitting a little high, very noticeable with 17" on 215/40 even with perches adjusted all the way down (locking ring removed)
I'll be machining the perches to allow the back to sit at this height, i'll post some pics of the perches when they are done so anyone with coilovers looking to get another 15mm can do this.

                      • Should really consider a pair of IDF's drop plates. I'm running them with airride at the moment and my 'bags still have air in them even with the beam arms touching the chassis. Adds a good amount of camber too, and sets the wheel straight in the rear wheel well if you have it slammed.

                        • Cheers Ray, I'll have a better look into it.

                          Rear perches are done.
I haven’t seen of anyone doing this so I’ll post a couple of pics to illustrate what I’ve done.
I’ve heard of people removing the entire perch which looks very unsafe and makes a lot of noise with the spring not being properly seated and having room to move around the base.
Here is a standard rear perch with locking and spring collars.

If you removed the collars the spring wouldn’t sit centralised on the perch as the sides of the perch base are angled and that also made a lot of noise. I had this angled section machined to match the diameter of the spring collar, the spring sits nice and tight, no noise.

Here is the difference in height with the collars and without, I know it's not huge but it made a big difference how the car sits with another 20mm down.

                              • been a while...
Finally fitted 380cc injectors and VR6 maf housing.

MAF is straightforward, AGU element fits straight into the VR6 housing.

Injectors needed some work to fit properly into the AGU injector seats. Decided to do a bit of a write up since I haven’t been able to find any info on this, so all you mkiv guys know what to do if you run into the same issue.

Here is the AGU injector vs 380cc TT/S3 injector. The issue was the bottom half of the 380cc injector body that sits inside the injector seat is thicker than the AGU injector, you’ll need to file down these tabs to fit correctly into AGU manifold. Roughly 0.8mm from each side.

You can see where the issue is, without filing these, they catch onto to injector seats and wont go in or seal properly.

Here is a side by side comparison, the 380cc are shorter so they need a spacer to reach the fuel rail.

After filing down, they slot in nicely, the two O-rings make it tighter fit than original ones.

So fitting the VR6 maf meant the stock air box had to come out. I hate the noise of open filter so I decided to build a custom intake/airbox, starting from the bottom of bumper. I’ll let the pics do the talking. It took a lot of modeling with carboard, once I got it right, start fabing it up. Terrible at progress photos, but you get the idea.

Fitted on the car, the plastic part after the scoop is from a beemer, the outlet is 3.5inch and is the biggest that can fit through the opening next to the battery.

Since the A3 bottom of the bumper is restrictive, I decided to open it up a bit.
The bottom part of the bumper is flimsy plastic so to avoid cutting of bits any further, I folded them over inside and plastic welded the cut edge.

This was before I finished sanding.
I prob should have used a bit of filler to smooth it out further

Same deal on the other side

                                Fitted on the car

Seemed a bit too open so installed some mesh on the bottom & repainted.
Looks a bit like RS type bumper, came out ok I guess.

                                i'll write the rest later
