  • Teflon's Mk VI Carbon Steel GTI

Thought I'd post up some photos of the car after recently purchasing some VMRs. It's the tried and tested VMR710 carbon steel with 18s. Although this is a popular wheel, I haven't seen this combination in SA on my travels. Got exceptional service from Marc at iautosport - can't speak highly enough of him! (At a great price as well). My mate and I installed them last night at the warehouse where he works and he was kind enough to take some photos afterwards (excuse the dirty car).

Only other mods have been a Viezu tune (thanks to Miro) and the LED tail lights (Ozram pointed me in the right direction) - big thanks to AdamD who was extremely helpful with the coding - absolute legend.

Don't have too many other plans for it as it'll be a 3 year lease car. Maybe the Focals speaker kit and springs to finish things off but I am content with the ride height vs comfort on the 18s. I wanted to get most of the mods done early so I could enjoy them for the life of the car.

Looks great. Always love the VMR710s and spent a long time considering them before going a different route.

Try and get out to one of our local VWW meets if you can..

Thanks mate. Am keeping an eye on the meet up thread - couldn't quite get out there for the last one but the few SA members I have met already have been fantastic.

I was close to pulling the trigger on some BBS-CKs but decided on these in the end... maybe some non reps (although these are very good reps!) for my next car in three years .

Damn that looks good mate. Sooooooooo much better than the Denvers! I've always had a soft spot for the VMR 710 and on a CSG car they just look fantastic.

Ride height looks fine too. If I was going on aesthetics alone an inch drop would be beneficial, but this is a good compromise.

Thanks mate... and for pointing out to me that this combination is not that common in Adelaide when I was trying to decide whether to pull the trigger! I thought that I would always change the wheels and hence the decision to just purchase the car with the Denvers. At this stage I'm leaning towards keeping the suspension stock but time will tell if I cave to more modifications...

I definitely had no intentions of mods but time has slowly changed that. I can vouch my mild drop hasn't caused any issues thus far, and while the ride is firmer I'd say it's not noticeable around 80% of the time anyway.

Look forward to seeing you at one of the events and seeing this up close.

Sourced through, and installed by, German Auto at Edwardstown.. who are basically the only local dealer who deal the gear here in Adelaide. Given I am not mechanically minded I wanted someone well versed with VW product and someone who had the right bolts etc ready to go.

If you can do the springs yourself or have an alternative fitter then you can grab the springs from Guy direct at APR.

I'd spent ages looking into the whole springs thing and decided spending a little extra for a quality product with local support suited what I was doing, and I'm happy with the look and ride outcomes.

                  PM sent as well.

Thanks guys. Love what you've done with your car Lucas_R and thanks for the extra info Dutch77.

The OCD side got the better of me today so I picked up a torque wrench and checked all the wheel bolts ... I feel much better now. If any SA guys need to borrow one feel free to pm me.
