Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • My GTI Golf

    Hey guys

My names Pete, this is my GTI Golf. I've only ever attended one Melbourne cruise but thought heres my chance to introduce myself again and attend more and up coming cruises/meets. Shes come along way now, have spent a considerate amount of cash in maintaining it but now its unfortunately for sale I've always had, owned and worked on older cars but now the cash is needed in investments elsewhere

O.G and high as a kite!

A few weeks in it was a credential to getting it low, bought a set of cheap coilovers and whoopsys - worst thing i ever did. The front shocks were shot after a couple of mountain runs lol fitted adjustable sway bar links but got it sitting too low in the front that it wouldnt shut up.

Fast forward a couple of weeks after the Melbourne cruise, the clutch started to go so I ended up going with the ECS stage 1 setup, installed it myself and forgot the most important thing and didn't align it. Bent the forks on the pressure plate and got pissed off so I sent it straight to VW Imported Wreckers to get worked on. Mark was great and quick with the initial fix up, should of went straight to him first but my ego said otherwise haha

Fitted up the front mount that I purchased from this forum off a member, within my order from ECS I purchased H & R springs and shocks, new mounts, bearings and control arm bushes. Drove it around for a couple of months - needed and wanted more power! but then it needed more little issues fixed up
By this stage I sent it back to Imported to get the control arm bushes done and front wheels bearings as I didnt have a press and hub tools. The bushes purchased from ECS pretty much crumbled in the control arm - ****ed up my idea of a cheap fix so I ended up buying new complete control arms

Up until the last couple of weeks, I've managed to source down some 18x8 wheels. I didn't really want wheels as I was quite happy with the stockers, but I got them at a decent price so oh well, more money was spent. Photos fitted with rear 20mm spacers

Last and hopefully final order from ECS came, once again I didn't think it through and just bought **** - the amount of times spent on shipping cost has been crazy but its been worth it, unfortunately to date the car isn't any quicker than what I wanted it to be

I managed to change the sway bar bushes today, re-greased my sway bar links, fitted 15mm front spacers, changed the dog mount on the gearbox - which now has a rough vibration through the engine at 1k-1.5k revs, anyone else had this problem before?? I either forgot to do something or its telling me the other mounts are shot. In the order I got my larger diameter front rotors and red EBC pads, again - I ****ed up, forgot to order in the TT caliper carriers so now im trying to source down local ones lol I wanted to cry when I realised I forgot to order them

As she sits im quite happy with how the car is performing, like I mentioned I would of loved to have spend the cash on power mods but ironing out the little bugs that ive noticed I wouldn't have it any other way, at least now if the car doesn't sell she'll do well driving me to and from work, and the odd mountain duties

If I keep it any longer - I'll end up compressing the rear springs to sit flush, exhaust, tune and maybe a larger turbo setup

    Cheers
    _pete
