Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Thanks bro, I tried to send you a picture message when I got them but it didn't work! I'm gonna ask the tyre guy at BMW today if he's done any stretching before and whether he feels like helping me make explosions during lunch...

All of this for a bloody test fit as well, I may as well just put 205s on there from new and be done with it!

If you rock up at a normal tyre place are they going to look blankly at you when you ask about stretching tyres...?

just tell them to mount them like a 4x4 tyre, and say that a mate of yours stretched a 165/50 on a 8" rim, the 165's are made for 5.5" wide wheels hahaha

It's more of a liability thing. Most think "stretching" (it's just mounting an undersized tyre over a wide rim) isn't safe and don't want anything traced back to them. I often wave a bit of cash and ask them to do it off the books and then there's no problem

At the front arches, there's nothing to roll because the guard is attached to black plastic. Does that plastic come off if I want to roll the front guards?

Nice wheels - always liked those. Props on the prospective guard rolling.

Sort of hoping to see the euro flares back on there at some point too, tho

I think I have to agree with you dude...I'm gonna see how we go once I polish the guards and get them rolled to accomodate the wheels...but right now, I'm not at all convinced. hahaha.

Got the guards rolled this evening, Nelson from sydney guard rolling came to my place and I watched him do it all. I'd recommend him, he knows his stuff . My guards weren't the best, but I'm sticking the arches back on so it's all good.

Wheels should be on in a week, provided my tyre guys can get me some rubber!
