Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Maybe try this one to be safer.

Never heard of the deoderant method until now.
Seems simple enough but could be dangerous and possibly damage the inside of the tyre and make it unusable.
        see here:

If you used a burning rag on the end of a broomstick i guess it would be okay.
They also seem to use brake cleaner in teh videos, must be able to burn more easily after spraying

          I'm sorry, but what?!

Tyres don't understeer. Tyres vary in grip levels and reactivity.. But they don't understeer or oversteer. If you put a set of tyres on your car and it understeers, it was imbalanced in the beginning and the new tyres aren't as good, meaning you have found the limit at less of a speed than you did previously.

I know what I said may not have technically been correct, but my point was that they aren't sh*t tyres with no grip with a 'lower limit' of grip if you will.

Well, it was less than 2k.

tyre stretching at home is hard. My deodorant is just burning and not making the tyre blow up haha.

                    I agree with Jarred.

Most people online are using brake cleaner but some are using WD40 or hairspray.

Deoderant will just evapourate too quickly i think.

                            hahaha. nope.

deoderant itself isn't flamable. it's the propellant (compressed hydrocarbon) that is.

if you just spray it in there, it wont actually explode (combust) because the majority of the flammable gas has diffused into the surrounding air.

if you're actually game, and whilst i dont condone any of this because it's quite dangerous...

take the top off a deoderant can and attach it to a portable gas butane can. that will boom...

Yeah I think I will have to try butane if nothing else has worked.

But...I'm going to get a tyre shop to do it because I'm not game on wrecking these wheels. Anyone got a contact for around/in the west ryde area on a tyre fitter that will stretch?
