130kw at the flywheel for a VR6, which is 100kw at the wheels, as opposed to 110kw atw for the POLO. And the polo is lighter.

In my VR6 Ibiza, which had Microtech fuel injection, I had 100kw atw, on the dyno, which is 133hp and I ran the quarter in 15.2. The car was lighter than a Mk3 VR6 too.

Blokes on here are running sub 15s for the quarter mile in their POLOs with a chip flash! VR6 makes a better noise, Polo would use less fuel.

Rather than chipping a VR6, there are lots of aftermarket fuel computers made in Australia which you can use. And which then allow you to change settings if you get a turbo or other mods.

I wasn`t that impressed with Microtech, but JEM Just Engine Management at Liverpool quoted me $2000 to supply, fit and dyno tune a Haltech system. They basically need the car for a few days and will make a loom to suit.

Ummm... The power figures are sure in the favour of the Polo, but the kerb weight of the Polo is 1265Kg compared to the VR6's 1207Kg Kerb weight. Then you have to remember that there are two completely different driving styles between these two cars (one mini turbo dunger vs torque on tap 6 cyl) and that there is $20,000 price parity between them. And Noone in their right mind would lighten a brand new Polo, whereas i prolly wouldn't think twice of chucking rear seats, trim, carpet out of a 10G vr6 and bringing the weight down to 1100Kg...

Sure enough you could get a massively enjoyable ride out of both Dubbers.

Just depends where you want to spend your money i think?

          Cheers

all us vr6 drivers need to cut the crap and start bolting on turbos i think ! Just to make the competition even . Its cheating if u guys just crank up the boost!

But yeah re: weight. When my car was on the corner scales it weighed in at 1210kgs with the rear seats and carpet and stuff stripped out and the rear suitcase muffler deleted. I also had most of a tank of petrol.

July 2005 I think. Those that get their reds after July 2005 would be under that rule. Those that got their reds before July 2005, but got their greens after that are exempted.

Ah whats all this talk about Vr6s having so much more torque than 1.8ts.

The little 1.8t has a much bigger powerband than the 2.8L stock(210nm@1850rpm vs 235nm@4000~), and when chipped they have alot more torque from alot lower than the v6.

So, when it comes down to it, street/strip performance

                        Stock for Stock = Vr6
Both Chipped = 1.8T (a3 or golf OR polo)

true true, 1.8T+Software = Can't Lose! but Vr6+ more cash, cams, chip, exhaust or maybe even Turbo = sweetness

if you got the money, people in the states have all motor vr6’s running 12’s.

Hey did you buy the VR6 off car sales ??

And you live in Hurstville don't you? Ive seen your car around on a certain street... I live on the same street (MkIV GTI).

Good purchase, and don't let Igor (DUBBIN) tell you that VR6s are the fastest... he knows the 1.8Ts are the best
