Trakka 215/60 R17 AT Tires

Can any of you Trakka Camper owners let me know what brand of AT tires you have.

Trakka offer a Tire 215/60 R17 for there 3200GVM model, and it has the same Diameter of the stock 235/55/R17, so noe gearing issues or speedo issues.

I noticed yesterday, while reading the specs for a Trakka model that they were available, but didn't have any luck finding at this size with the 103 Load Rating through any of the major tire websites.

I wonder if it is a special Coopers Tire made for them?

Hopefully someone can clear this up.

Have you tried to ring some Coopers dealers they should be able to tell you load ratings etc .

I should have posted this up, after i got a answer from Merrill, he posted it on the lift thread.

The tires, he has on his Trakka Offroad is "Goodyear - CARGO VECTOR 2 215/60 R17 109/107T"

There are an all weather tire, dry wet and snowy. not technically a AT, but it appears they are a strong tire.

At the time i couldn't see them on Goodyear aus website.

I suspect I'll have to finish up recalibrating the speedometer.

Jax tires and Beaurepaires sell them, although i don't know the current prices.

I've seen a lot of review's on the original Cargo Vectors, they were quite negative, as they were noisy and not much flex in the sidewalls and just felt like solid rubber tyres.

The Cargo Vectors 2 were released in 2015, but i haven't seen a lot of reviews on them.

The Maxxis Bravo 771 AT, are within 11mm of the 690mm standard rolling Diameter. which would be close enough for the speedo.

If you able to put 16 inch tires on, then you have a good AT range that is legal, but as i have the larger brakes, i'm limited to 17inch and above.

I know the market isn't huge for AT tires for 235/55/r17, 103 load rated, but its disappointing that there is no real AT in that size and load rated.

Trakka were trialling 225/60/R17 (if i recall) Cooper AT, that weren't available locally, (according to a product magazine review) but i don't know if they decided to push ahead or just kept using the Cargo Vectors 2.

I'll most than likey just grab a set of Cargo Vector 2's if i get knocked back on the request for both suspension & tire combined under the 50mm limit.

Have you got ESC, as if you don't you don't have to stay stock, those 225/65 R17 BFG KO2 would be a great choice.

I'd be using the GPS to determine real speed to work out the % of the accuracy of your speedo in your van and then by using a tyre size calculator, you can easily see if you go over as they offer a % difference on the tyre change..

No, I don't have ESC on my vehicle. I do know that when my speedo says I'm doing 104kph I'm sitting on 100kph.


I too found the Cargo Vectors to be poor in the way you/others describe them. The Maxxis tyres you refer to might well be worth a look as they only give about a 2% change in measured speed, so great as this is within the limits. (Actually, strictly not as there must be an over estimate of 4kph plus a max of 10%. At the moment mine are spot on the 4kph.

I have lately found that whilst I can legally raise the car using tyres, this would change the speedo reading and make the vehicle "illegal" and my local VW Service Manager told me that as far as he was aware there was no way to re-calibrate the vehicle - though in saying so he admitted he had never heard of the Distance Impulse Number. For many VW and related sedans, this number can be used to change the tyre circumference assumed by the software/firmware to calculate displayed speed. At the very least, this number allows the correct value for different models to be provided to the calculations. Is may possibly not be able to enter a specific value but allow the choice between a variety of pre-installed ones. The Ross-tech (and related clone?) VCDS software is probably needed to investigate the matter and I don't have this - though am looking at it.

The Distance Impulse Number for the Amarok (?or Tiguan? though I haven't looked at their actual wheel sizes) probably allows larger diameter tyres/wheels and if it does it may be that telling the electronics that it is an Amarok etc for the purposes of speed calculation could possibly work.

When I phone Qld Transport I will ask whether I can put 16" wheels on but stick to the rolling diameter of the standard tyres. That WOULD give me other tyre options, as you say. I wonder what they will say?

I'll keep working on this as I have time. I'm also in the process of designing bash plates, similar to the Seikel one, to go under the fuel tank and diff.

I think you will rarely find even a factory speedo to be accurate so I would not get too worried about a couple of Km over or under , ignore the dealers they are full of it anyway .Again I think you are over stressing yourself with the various departments , I found that you will never get the same answer and even worse if you ask for it in writing they will not give it . All you are left with is to PAY an engineer with a good knowledge of ADR regulations and Qld Transport regulations who for a fee be able to answer your questions with no BS .Maybe contact one of the companies who do camper van conversions they may have a list of engineers as also would Qld Transport . I just don't think if you want to do this by the book that you will get an accurate solution on the Forum unless another member has done the identical conversion with exactly the same model that you have plus the same tyre and wheel type and size plus suspension combo .

Well if you don't have ESP (ESC) then i'd be using the 75mm combined lift, If i was you i'll be throwing on the 235/65 R17, you have a good range there with the load rating, the Total lift from the 235/65 R17 size rim over the standard is 24mm lift height, so unless you go over 50mm suspension lift, its all good, are are within the QLD Regs.

Off course confirm this yourself with QLD Transport.

As for the speedo, being "out" with larger tires, at the moment you are 4% under, the 235/65 R17 is 6.37% over so your only going to be out 1.37%

Is it really worth going to the trouble of sorting that out, i'm pretty sure there is an allowance you can be out..

Well i picked up my new van today.
It came with 215/60 R17 Cargo Vectors 107, M+S Tires a bonus of ordering a 3200gvm model.

So they will do me until they run out, i'll have to chase down a spare, and i'm good to go.

Just saved myself some money, as they are as close to an All Terrain tire that i have found with the same diameter as OEM

Although, it looks like my 3200GVM M17 doesn't have ESC. (just waiting for confirmation) so legally it looks like i can put on 235/65 R17 with a 30mm Seikel Lift without all the paperwork
