The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • 2005 T5 - Missing key!! So how to dissengage autobox from Park to Neutral?

Having to leave my 2005 VW T5 at a temporary storage location whilst heading overseas for a few months. This was mainly due to loosing the one and only key for the vehicle just a few days before my trip! I have now been told that the T5 now has to be moved within a few weeks! So I am now having to look into getting the T5 towed to a storage yard until my return.

Having spoken to a few local towing companies and having explained the problem, (not having a key for the vehicle and unable to dissengage the autoshift from park to neutral). Towing company have stated that this should not be too much of an issue regarding winching the vehicle on to the tow truck. Personally reluctant to move without at least attempting to dissengage auto shift from park to Neutral.

Mechanic stated that with some vehicles, it is possible to dissenage auto shift without having a key in the ignition?
Is there any way of dissengaging auto shift from Park to Neutral? Will dragging the vehicle on to a towing truck stuck in park cause any major auto box damage?

Any suggestion, advice will be greatly appreciated!

How will you overcome the steering lock?

It won't cause any harm to the van being dragged onto a tilt tray. It happens all the time. The tyres just squeak a bit.

Most towing companies use go-jacks now anyway.
