Local VW dealer doesn't stock T6 or Crafter. They aren't interested in making the effort. They are also Ford dealers...don't stock Transit either. Mind you...the local Toyota dealer doesn't have a Hiace on the floor either. The MB and Hyundai dealer does stock their vans...so the local fleet tends to run Sprinter, Viano and iLoad...funny eh?

Interesting find seems again us Aussies get screwed by VWA , I was doing some price comparisons on options in the UK , Sunroof in the upspeced models in the UK in AU dollars approx. $1009 here from VWA same sunroof $1990 !! Pearl /metallic paint $400 dearer here than in the UK . One option that really cracked me up was there was additional dust seals for 25 quid , wonder if they are standard here or not . Hmm that may be why the doors on our 2012 T5.1 bounced like some third world built car , the doors would close and bounce back on the strikers not like those oh so confident Golf ads on TV where the salesman would shut the door and say Just Like A Golf . I complained about ours and the dealers response was to lubricate the seals and strikers bloody morons . I checked later on a Multi van and noticed an extra seal down the trailing edge of the front doors .

The is no excuse for this sort of discrepancy. It should be currency difference plus a small %. The cost of freight to here from the factory is the same whether it's a top of the range Multivan LWB Executive or Transporter Runner. It's this sort of price gouging that hopefully parallel import changes should eradicate. Love to here the excuse that ADR compliance on metallic paint means we need to pay more!

It was the same across the board whilst doing the comparisons , every option was so much dearer here than in the UK . It was staggering the options list I would hate to think what it would cost to tick all the option boxes . Seems that the 2.0 Petrol TSi is only available if you've got the readies of $80000 in your pocket , seems pretty dumb when you consider the basic first series T5 had a2.o petrol engine standard . There's that conspiracy theory again .

Special order? Did that require a second mortgage
All the best with it when you get it.

That may go towards explaining why I was able to find a great deal for a new Hiace but nothing yet for a T6.

Well my local vw dealership recently changed hands and has put out the special sign - so i couldn't help myself but go in for a "deal"
For a Transporter LWB 340 manual it's $41,000 drive away.
Doing all the business calculations over 4 years that's going to cost me an extra $14,500
To get a 6 year younger vehicle
That is probably no more reliable after warranty - and could possibly be a lemon
Plus the cost of a towbar and 2 years extended warranty
Less any repairs I might have had to make on my existing 2010 T5 (is that likely to be $14,500 over 5 years?)
Plus the hassle of buying and selling and refitting and putting up with VW servicing for 5 years.
There is currently nothing wrong with my 2010 vehicle and I am probably not going to do many km's in the next 5 years.

Anyone have any thoughts on that as a deal?

                  Hi aSimpleLife,

How many kay's on your 2010. In the last few months of ownership my T4 @298,000km cost me $1000 per month in repairs and my T5 is now at 285,000km and to be honest I should have ordered something by now but as it turns out the MY17 model is now being built or ordered so my delay has got me into the next model year as i have to factory order. No-one seems to have dealer stock with wing doors.

Back to you, as it's a work vehicle apart from repairs there is the lost time getting towed back, then the time spent catching up on work not completed while also dealing with the new work that comes in (hopefully). The cost of hiring a replacement vehicle and of course paying for the repaires to your own van which isn't going to get younger.

If your van is perfectly fine, not racking up high km's then I'd stick with it. You could even set up a small "repair" fund ..but to be frank I don't think I've heard of major problems with T5GP's including dsg versions. Plus in a year or so if you only need a plain vanilla van there will be more to choose from especially as dealers change over their demo stock etc...In the mean time if I were you and I had decided to keep the current one I'd probably spend some money on upgrading some things to make life for enjoyable as there is so much to buy especaially from UK suppliers including geniune VW dealers.

Thanks for the input. I should have mentioned my T5's on 115,000km's

Yes I've just finished a bit of a spend up before the eofy.
Could I ask for a list of those suggested imported upgrades?

The VW dealer I was talking to said there is very little Transporter stock available at the moment. Apparently only 1 free in Melbourne of what I want. And when more do eventually come in there will be less options than now. There was more from him but apparently I was listening that well because I can't be sure of what he said now I never asked about dieselgate but he felt the need to tell me a story about a recent chat with an ex porsche vw exec that was over here who said they've about taken their price hit over that in AU for long enough here and that we can expect prices to rise before the end of the year. That the AU market really isn't that big or important to them. Also that vw just happened to be the only ones who got caught and that now they've rectified things they are providing even better vehicles than before etc etc etc

Out Crdi 2010 Hyundai got a "mysterious" software update at the last service...

But going for a new van is a good idea. We have just a ordered a t6 multivan that needs the come from Germany to get the options we wanted. I wonder if you are ordering from the factory if you can basically just get what you want? We did go for a standard package with extra options.

I have also just ordered a new one (Multivan). There were very few options available, even less than when I was looking at T5s. Things that I was keen on we're suspension package, swivel 1st row seats etc (stuff that would make it good for camping). I wasn't even able to order a towbar because they didn't have an approved one ready yet. It's such a shame because looking at overseas models, there's so much good stuff available from the vw factory including electric pop-up camper roof, auxiliary heaters and protection panels underneath for off-road. I guess our market isn't big enough to go through the approval process for these things.

Yes it would be nice to order say a T6 comfortine with most powerful 450 Nm engine and option it up with some leather, fog lamps and some electric folding mirrors without having to fork out big big bucks for a Highline.

I will stick with my 2008 T5 comfortline for now. Cheers, Scott

Might get worthwhile warranty work that way.
